The trigger lever bar safety is nortoriouly heavy on the Chaparral M'76's and probably is also on the Uberti firearms.

I just replaced the spring for this safety on my Chaparral M'76 with a replacememt spring from The Smith Shop that is made for the Uberti M'73.  This was practically a drop in replacement and is a completly safe solution to this problem.

Complete instructions and a good set of photographs are available on the The Smith Shop web site, www.thesmithshop.com, and the price is a reasonable $4.00 + shipping.

I recommend this to anyone who wants to lighten the lever closing force to disengage the safety but still maintain the integrity of the safety.

Hi,
I just finished reassembling this spring back into my U1876. I didn't find that spring excessively strong but I did find the screw for it very hard to get to with a straight screw driver. Maybe a ratchet with a screw driver on it would work better. Good info Hell-Er High Water, I'll check the tension again.
