Two Flints

Hello SSS,

Found this very interesting article on the "Blakeslee Quickloader" in the October, 1962 issue of Civil War Times Illustrated magazine, written by Randy Steffen.

Cool drawings, but I probably would not empty the tube in the magazine at such a significant angle.

Great stuff.  Thanks.

Originals were rim fire with pointed bullets.  You could drop them straight down.

Good point.  I forgot about them being rim fire.  NOTE to new Spencer shooters:  Dont drop the center fires down the tube like drawings indicate as they could go BOOM.   :D

My Pard Hangin Judge Hemp had his original go off when his son got bucked of 10 years ago or so, and had not flattened the follower nose.  Destroyed everything behind the receiver!  There was an article and fotos in the "Camp Chase Gazette" years ago.

The Late, great Randy Steffen! His four volume Horse Soldier is worth having in your personal library.

Now I finally know how to wear mine, the persnickity thing.

Hint:
Don't wear one of these critters when stepping down into a stream to cross it, unless you are first assured that the lid is latched.
The act of bending over has this nasty habit of placing your shoulder near-level with your waist, with a forward motion that may (just may) allow the contents of those nice, slippery tubes, to carry forward... into the drink.  ::)

Let's just say that Saylor's Creek ate more than a few of my blanks... Accidentally.  And that water is still coooold in April.
