Colt clones, what do I need to do for CAS work?

I have always used Rugers, old model Vaqs and blaxkhawks.

I recently tripped over a NIB Armi San Marco 44WCF nickel plated gun which I swapped for a No4 Lee enfield rebuild that I no longer needed. I am also about to pick up a NIB 32/20 (ASM as well, they were popular here) for a reasonable price and there is a Dakota 45Colt real cheap, it has seen a bit of work.

With my Ruger, all I have ever done is cock and take off one of the spring legs and drop the hammer on my thumb several hundred times while watchin g TV. They have never missed a beat that wasn't caused by my big hands having trouble and slipping off the hammer occasionally befoe it was fully cocked.

The Colt clones sound and feel a lot less robust.

If they work out I will ultimately get a pair that match exactly.

All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

fourfingersofdeath, You have that correct when you say " The Colt clones sound and feel a lot less robust" Ruger's are very tough and hold up very well for CAS shooting. The only single action I would dare say is better,(as in more rugged) are the one's made by Freedom Arms. WBR

The clones all come with truck springs in them. Lighten them and they work great. It doesn't hurt to take a peek inside and polish off any rough places where the bluing is worn. I've had good luck with them. A lot of the different feel is the leaf mainspring where Rugers have coils. There are coil spring conversions you can get if you want to bother. You can also put a trigger/bolt spring in that is made from piano wire. They last forever where the flat ones sometimes break. I replaced mine with them and they are great. I also bought a pair of coil spring conversions that I never bothered to put in. They work fine with the flat mainspring.
