I pick up on saturday.

I'll post pictures of my set-up sunday/monday

All 6 cylinders work great in both guns, all 6 have been reamed to allow 36 caliber balls or conicals to have a nice tight fit without shaving lead, a cap guard has been installed, and action jobs - my gunsmith has a apir of 1860's that are so sweet and smooth - that I can hardly wait to feel mine.

He is also making me a hand loader for the cylinders.

Wahoooooooooooo

Looking forward to seeing the pictures. I rather see them in person at the "Hanging", but I understand how you would rather be closer to home around that time. You and the family are still in my prayers.

I have a pair of 51's done by Rowdy Yates and I can tell you that slicked up, the 51's shoot great. The capguards work fantastic too. I predict you are gonna love yours and with extra cylinders too, oh my. Good holsters for them is another plus if you have them. Style, accuracy, reliability, what more can you ask for? You are gonna love them. :)

Picked them up late saturday afternoon.

Sweet - going to clean them up while I do my other guns later today and then will take some pics.

BM - howdy pard - wish I could shoot Hangin but pretty sure I will be busy with a new little one.  Hoping I can make the Peacemaker shoot in the spring.

HD - the cool thing is my current belt and holster set will work great with the guns and I got a great deal on cylinder pouches from Fall Creek Sutlery.

also picked up my 100 12 guage brass shells made into 2 inch shells for my Martini single shot shotgun - wahooooooooooooo.

Did you refinish the grips?  They don't look like the usual red grips.

Well I did not get to try out my C&Bs today - guess I'll have to try for next weekend.

TT - nope but the guns were old ubertis - their boxes are marked "Western Arms"

Their serial numbers show somewhere in late 1970's/early 80's - the owner rarely shot them and decide to sell them.

I was just in right place at right time - for once.

Flint

Interesting that both those guns have steel gripframes.  Are they marked "London"?  Did you have new gripframes fitted?

They are London marked on the boxes Flint.

Still hoping to pull the trigger on them come sat/sun this weekend at parents farm with some loaded chambers.

Maybe get my thompson center ready for hunting season too.

Pards - wahooooooooo test fired these this weekend.

The cylinders worked like a charm in either gun and they did really well with remington and rws caps.  I was using the Graf 3f and it smoked and belched good fire!!

The cabela wads are a little "wetter" than my wonder wads - so not sure I would load the night before a match but would load the morning of a match and then make sure they were stood nipples up just in case.

The one gun was smooth and great, the other either needs a new wedge or a heavier hammer spring - but I am sure my gunsmith can fix that.

Both guns shot a little low - but definitely fine for cowboy.

Howdy!

Pony Racer, the reason those pistols shoot low (even lower for the 1860s than the other models) is that Uberti copied the original sights.  We all see those tiny brass sights on the front of those GORGEOUS 1860s and we all also find that they shoot low.  Well, the bright fellers at Colt made the 1860 for Military use.  Bear with me - the distances and times I'll mention are approximate, but close.

Back then, a soldier was expected to be able to load and fire his rifle 3 times in one minute.  (He would START with the rifle loaded, then load & fire 3 more times for a total of 4 shots.)  Normally, the tactics of the day required that an Infantry "charge" would start at about 200 yards.  (About 180-185 meters for our Metric friends.  ;)We won't go into the FACT that this 18th Century tactic would meet up with 19th Century weapons that were quite capable of deadly accuracy to 400 yards.  With terribly deadly results.   Anyway, the charge would start, then off they'd go.  At a trot/jog/fast range-walk a gear-laden soldier would cover about 125-150 yards in one minute.  At this time, the soldiers, usually officers - could fire 6 more times while their soldiers could possibly load once more and affix their bayonets - if not already affixed - while the now running survivors of the charge closed to hand-to-hand distances.  And that's why the pistols shoot low at our distances; those guns are sighted in for 50-75 yards.  Don't believe me?  TRY one at that distance - you'll be pleasantly surprised at the accuracy of an authentic copy of an 1860 at long range.  (Man-sized targets, NOT bullseye.)  ;D  (Professor Bailey steps off his podium.  ;) )

The Walkers, Dragoons and 1851s all had similar height sights for the same reasons, but Remington took another direction, 'cause I think their sights are set for nearer distances.  1/2 Creek Charley or one of the other pards with REAL Remingtons will have to chime in here about the height of originals vs. the repros.

Tks SHB - interesting stuff.

BTW pards the Graf powder cleaned up much easier than my experience with Goex; however, I have also got better at loading using the right wads and etc...

So could also be that I just have gotten better at doing things right.

My pistols and cylinders cleaned up in a jiffy!!:)
