John Boy,
Please let me know how the patched bullets work out in your '76.

Adios,
Buck

Buck - will do.  probably won't be until the Spring when the weather is more conducive.
I've got some 1:20 RCBS 45-530-RN bullets that am going to cast and try out in my 45-70's too

I go up to Ridgeway Rifle Club in Elk Co PA several times a year to shoot 1000yds.  Last trip, using the Lee 457-340-F's in the '76 with 65gr Swiss 1.5, was only able to fly them to 800yds (groups not that good).  Using 23gr XMP4577 - wasn't much better either.  Be interesting to see if the '76 PP's will make it to 1000yds with better accuracy.  Just shooting 100 to 300yds doesn't hold thrills anymore

John Boy,
Just maybe the Winchester 1876 Long Range .45-90-450PP cartridge may just be the ticket!

You won't believe this John ... the Mrs said today that I was deserving of a new rifle for Christmas!  Something to think about  ;)

In the meantime, am going to do this:

  • Take my '74 Sharps PP Adjustable Mold and run it down to 0.835
  • Cast about 50 using 1:11 based on the PP boxes picture you posted
    • My reasoning for using the 1:11 is from Bucks post stating the unmarked mold was made by Sharps for Winchester and the WRA 10 Long Range Bullet box of PP's listing 45-550-BP-1:11 on the left side ... even though 550gr PP's are 1.5", not 0.835
    • Then take them to our club and fly a few at 600yds before we get back up to Ridgeway for Homer(I got a bad itch to get back there!)
