Howdy Folks,  Looking for parts, Merwin Hulbert SAA, 1876-1880 third model frontier, .44cal, 7" barrel, blued finish, need cylinder and pair of grips. Thanks for any help.

St. George

Repair parts for your Merwin, Hulbert generally reside in other folks' revolvers, and they're a proud lot...

Your best bet is going to be the gun show parts dealer - the guy who 'doesn't' have all the AR-15 add-on accessories - and your search is likely to take some time, so it's probably best to view it as a hobby.

Parts for Merwin, Hulberts of 'any' variety are exceptionally scarce - though replacement grips are available from several dealers.

Try - www.vintagegrips.com - for same.

Good Luck.

Partner, Thanks for the quick reply, Yes ,original parts for this gun are hard to find, My father and I pick up a crate of old gun parts from a retired Gun Smith, and this Merwin was just missing the cylinder and a crack grip. Thanks again for the help.

You might want to give Happy Trails a call at http://www.thesmithshop.com/.

I really hate to send him more business so he will take longer working on my stuff, but Hap had to make a new cylinder for one of his Merwins when it blew up from being shot with Smokeless powder a few years ago. He may be able to help you out. I'm sure you will have to send him the gun for him to fabricate a new part and fit it to your gun. Dunno if he can make all the parts, but he did make a new cylinder from scratch.

Dunno about the grip.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
