Is there anything negative about the '85 hi/wall in 45-90 ? Accurate rifle ?

Could,,,if you wished, load this round with nitro,,or is it exclusively wise to load bp in the 45-90 ?

Thanks gents

Good rifle, John Brownings first design, not a buffalo rifle in the true sense since the herds were done as a paying deal by the spring of 1882, 5744 is made for the big BP rounds, if I was going to shoot Nitro powder I'd opt for the 45-70.

Not legal for NCOWS buffalo shoots if that matters.

Edit:  If it is a original and a true 45-90 it will not be suitable for heavy bullets with it's 1-32" twist instead of the 1-18 most 45-70's and such have.  The 45-2.4 or 45-2 2/5 is the more proper term if it has the faster twist.  Same case, differnt loadings.

Always get the water for the coffee upstream from the herd.

That's a neat ole picture even if they are tearin it up.

I have the 1885 LTd in 38/55.  If you do opt for the 45/90, I'd suggest you get a slip Limbsaver recoil pad or something similar.  That crescent buttplate is not forgiving in felt recoil especially off the bench.

Delmonico,,,,did you mean the '85 hi/wall wasn't NCOWS legal or that the nitro wasn't NCOWS legal ?

Thank you sir.
