Wanting to start a NCOWS posse, how do I proceed ?

Camping on the grounds is acceptable.  There is a nice cafe opperated in Hooten Old Town, therefore most of us won't have food to share.

It was a great shoot last year and it should be better this year.

I am new to this CAS stuff. Just joined the GAF (shameless plug!!) and am researching information for my kit. I live in the tidewater area of virginia (east coast) and am interested in a NCOWS shooting group in my area. There are none!!!!!! I was intersted to see that one might start near Roanoke, albeit quite a drive. Is that Posse dead in the water?  I also noted with interest that there were several NCOWS members on the East Coast of Virginia. Now, has anyone thought of starting a NCOWS Posse somewhere in the tidewater region, Richmond area, Northern Va. area, etc. There seems to be enough interest here........Any takers? I would definitely be interested. As far as shooting clubs for CAS goes, there's only on in my area and I know there are more CAS shooters here than that.

There is interest but it is hard to find a range in this ever-increasing metropolis we live in to host an NCOWS posse.  I have tried.  I came real close a couple of years ago in the King George area (east of Fredricksburg).  I had a club and a couple of interested shooters but it fell apart before I could get it really going.  Most of the clubs in this area have SASS shooters and can't (or don't want to) fit in another shooting venue into their already tight schedules.

True but I live in Northern VA and he lives in Southwest Virginia - about 5 hours away.

But it's still closer then Indiana! If Marshal Deadwood's shoot next month happens I hope to be there. Unfortunately (hobbywise) it looks like I might be able to get a slot in a EMT class Sep-Jan which will keep me from doing anything else during that time.

Hang in there EEJ, we'll get something going out here. Take advantage of the local SASS matches and have fun! There are some great (read friendly and helpful) local shooters that would fit right in with NCOWS. You will also run into fellow GAF members at local shoots. You can still enjoy good friends and fun at a SASS match until we get a NCOWS group organized in VA. Heck even once there is a NCOWS group here I will still shoot SASS, I view those as social events with some shooting anyhow.
