Hi All,
I needed a different size beading blade than what I have and didn't have the time to mail order it. The only one I could find locally is ceramic. The problem is that it isn't very sharp. Is there a way to freshen the edge? I have never used a ceramic swivel knife blade before and know nothing about its care and feeding.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Have you tried stropping it like you would a metal blade?  Don't know if that would work but you might try it.  I have never used one either.  Mine is metal.

I use the ceramic swivel knife blade and nothing else.i uuse the crafttool Ceramic 1/4" Filigree Swivel Knife Blade from Leatherfactory.
I just strop it on a piece of leather soilled with jeweler's rouge.

it never neeeds sharpening. This blade just works for me easier in tight turns than the standard blade. I don't have to tip the tool away from me when useing this ceramic blade.

the blade is supposed to be sharp but no so sharp that it will cut you. the sharpness of the ceramic blade feels differently to the hand than the steel one. get some scrap leather and give it a try.
you might have gotton a bad one. but the only way to tell is to try it ouit on a scrap piece.

They're not supposed to feel like an X-Acto blade, since ceramic does differ from steel.

They're 'sharp', though - and make no mistake - needing almost no maintenance.

Don't drop one, or you'll be needing a replacement blade since they can be brittle, but for normal work, they're a great choice.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies,
I was a little disapointed that it wasn't as smooth as my steel blades. I'll try stroping it with some jeweler's rouge and see what hapens. I'm sure that it will be fine with a little practice.

Thanks,

Jim
