Sighting a BP pistol

I have been shooting my 1860s in the classic, stand up straight, head up style as you would see in old pictures of duelists.  Hit fairly well but miss more than I would like.
A revelation happened. I realized that I was bringing the sights of the handgun in line with my line of vision. To do that I had to raise the back sight to bring it into that line because with my head up I am looking downward toward the targets. This requires an effort and a slight but awkward wrist movement on each shot to obtain this alignment.
Why not bend forward slightly, extend the gun toward the target, bring my chin down to near my shoulder until I'm looking down my arm, point the gun and fire.  Now my line of sight naturally coincides with the sight alignment and makes said sight alignment almost a non issue at SASS ranges and target sizes.
Might not work for everyone but I've been to three matches, shooting Frontiersman, 15 stages or so and have missed one shot. I jerked that one so bad that California was in danger.

What you see in my avatar is how I shoot mine. One thing I believe helps is to anchor your "off" hand onto something like your other gun or in my case, I tuck it against my chest or belly. That way my off hand doesn't have a chance to move and thereby throw off my aim. Aim your revolver duelist and then just barely sway your off hand and you'll see how it moves the gun. Hold it against your body and note how much steadier you are. Works for me. If I can hold onto a window sill or other solid prop, I'll do it to steady my aim.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

GAMER!!!  ;D :D ;)

I have been known to rest my rifle on a prop to steady my aim.  If it don't say I can't, then I can.  The object is to hit the targets.

I thought the "Cowboys" just used the front sight only putting it low on the target and it hit? I tried it and it works. In that fashion you don't look at the rear sight at all and point at a target up high or down low or what ever and leave the head wherever it wants to be as long as it follows the gun?????  Wyat Earp told me about that aiming scenario. Worked for him. :-\
