Well, now that I have moved to southern Illinois (in the area of the Macoupin Co. Regulators), I will be using my steel frame Henry as my exclusive CAS rifle again.  It's not that I have fallen out of love with my Spencer, but I sold off my Taylor's and acquired an original (VERY NICE) 1860 Carbine in 56-56.  I shoots great, but some folks worry about the 375 grain .54 caliber bullet over 40 grains of FFFG more the the Taylor's 56-50 .512 350 grain over the same charge.

I am hoping to wean myself from 777, as BP should be easier to get here.  I do use a lot of Goex in my Spencer, 1861 Springfield .58, and in my beloved Pietta .50 caliber Smith carbine.  I plan on switching to BP again in my Henry and my Remington conversions (one Kirst and one Taylor's factory 45 Colt 1858

Your are more than welcome to come and use BP in that one particular Remington factory 45 Colt 1858  ;D

Well i shot my first match with my Civialian Brass Framed Henry today. It is amazing and quite smooth. I hit everything I shot at today even the two bonus 65 Yd Shots. WOW Smooth is right. I didn't even have to drop it from my should er to work the lever..just flick, flick, BANG. I was faster than I had ever been with a lever gun too. I love my Henry.

I am continually amazed at how accurate my Henry is.  When I practice with it at the range shooting at normal CAS distances it just makes big ragged holes about 2 1/2" in diameter and that is shooting offhand and at CAS speeds.  At Winter Range this year I shot the long range pistol caliber levergun match.  Shooting at a target 100 yards offhand.  I had two misses and one of those was because I jacked around out of it before firing it.  ARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!! >:(  The other miss was surely me doing something wrong and not the rifle.  It is just too good.  I'm not as good at long range with my 1866.  The Henry is a keeper.  Also it is kind of fun being one of a few or the only one at a match shooting a Henry.  I like shooting something a little different.  Now if I can just get to a match.

Howdy to the camp,

Got off my lazy butt today and checked the date codes on my steel frame Henry: "AU" which is 1989.  Heck, that's almost 20 years old!  That's 5 years before I started SASS in 1994!  That is when I had three times (or maybe four times) as much hair, and it wasn't grey! That's back when my kids were in Jr. High School! :o :o :o :o :o

Actually haven't done much towards old fashion guns since I moved from Peoples Republik of Kalifornia to the land of the free.  I have  spent my time lately re-acquiring "evil, black rifles" !: I've built an AR15 16" lightweight carbine with Tasco 1x40mm optical red/green dot, acquiring an AK again, and all the ammo and magazines that go with them... JUST BECAUSE I CAN!!!!!!!!

I still love my Henry, Spencer, Smith Carbine, and Remmies, though.  Just taking some time out.....

Bernie, there isn't anything wrong with owning black guns.  I have a Vietnam era AR 15 myself and several 1911s.  Our own Montana Slim is a real expert on the AR platform guns.

I was a Police and Air Force Reserve Security Police armorer.  In the mid to late 80s I had a FFL and a business US Armory, selling politically incorrect Uzi and AR parts, and building custom ARs to order. I built up my own ultra-lightweight CAR-15 (NOT M4), the current day equivalent of the Henry and Spencer in the 1860s!
