If you've got a lot of the .248 heeled bullets made by Bernie Knowles, here's a neat little fixture I am working on to cut the end off and make it into a flat nose bullet. I basically sanded down the end of the bullet on the two shown in the photographs while held in the fixture.

But I'm gonna add a hardened knife to it that will work some what like a sprue cutter. Once I figure out the best place for the cutter, I'll drill and tap a hole in the fixture to attach it, sharpen it, put it in my heat treat furnace and and harden it. Then I'll square the fixture off in my mill. Makes a perfect bullet every time.

I just put the the few I have modified in a vice(not real tight) and filed off the nose. A file and a set of mic's, when I get the nose flat to about .30 dia. (more than enough to pass the primer area) I stop. Takes a few strokes but it Gets R Done. Don't know that I'd want to set and do 2000, but 50-100 at a time isn't that bad.

Neat fixture. With the cutter on it, it'll save time.  Looks like I'll be in the market for one of those too. Maybe Three. One for 44 Spcl. one for 44 Colt and one for the 44 Russian. This just keeps growing

HMMMM! If one were to make the fixture just for the bullet to drop into, with the cutter then one could cut the bullets before loading and crimping........Just a thought.

I'm going to order a 44 Henry Flat Long Crimper from Bernie. It's just like his 44 Rem. Crimper, but shorter to use the 44 Russian brass.

Charlie,
I tried just the bullet and it's too hard to keep it stable. Having the cartridge chambered in the fixture gives consistancy to the cartridge and gives you the exact cut every time.
