PS  I've seen new ones for 895.00,.. so for 130 more I can get a new one, with a warranty??

I'd say, it won't last long at that price.. I'm assuming your talking Saddle Ring carbine ?
The rifle and short rifle are more popular but that 44/40 cal. makes it a grab

In my opinion either price would be a great deal.  I checked the Taylor and Cimarron websites.  For a new 73 carbine you are talking around 1000 or more.  I opt for new as I go through a particular FFL who takes care of any problems I might have.  He calls Taylors or Cimarron and sends them back for me at no cost.  That being said,  If your funds are more limited I would not hesitate to go with the slightly used 73.
The caliber of the used one is my favorite lever rifle caliber.  I love 44-40.  Safe shooting.  Deadeye.
