A word from Taylors on the 1858 Remington

The folks at Taylors told me, on inquiry, that Uberti was no longer making the 'steel' frame 1858's,,,only the 'forged frame' 1858's .

I do not know about the 'stainless' 58's and I did not ask.

Just thought i'd toss this bit of info out from Taylor's.

Sounds like a logical decision to make. Why have two different processes running for the same product.

Yep!
I said sometime ago that they'd go the forged frames for everything, why spend extra for one model.
It is a bit sooner than I expected, but it is a GOOD THING!

Yeah I was just checking out Taylors website. Apparently alot of stuff is confusing on their catalog pages. Case in point, an item description saying BOTH Uberti and Pietta for the same Remmie.  ;D

I don't know, it's probably just nitpicking but I'd rather not deal with a company that doesn't seem to care about the quality of their shop windows.  :D

Or am I missing something?

As far as I know, Taylor's has a reputation of being a standup company that stands behind their products. I've found them to be very friendly and customer focused. I've bought a pair of 58 Remington gated conversions from them and a 73 Winchester and I'll buy from them again. I don't care about the quality of a website. It is the quality of the product and the customer service that matters to me.

I agree!!  Taylors has been very good to me.  If you look at most companies websites you will find errors.  This is why it is always best to call the company directly and talk to a knowledgable warm body.  I actually ordered two Model 2 Schofields from Taylors with arrival in a few days.  They dont even have them listed on the website.  I called them and asked if they had any in stock. I am getting a 7" in 44-40 and a hideout model in 3.5 inch.  I always call the company and dont depend on the website.  Websites are only as good as the webmaster taking care of them and some dont get changed buy one time per year.  Safe shooting.   Deadeye.

I give Taylors TWO THUMBS UP, and would do three thumbs up if I could find an extra thumb.

Compared to some distributiors,,they are all but sent from God,,,,if your gun IS defective,,,you aint stuck,,,

and they dont make you feel like your lying, or a burden or whatever,,they just say,,,'we'll do ya right, dont worry.'

I usually talk to the gals,,but dont be FOOLED ! They know their guns,,,,esp Tammy....she wont send ya down a bad trail...

They are all friendly at Taylors,,as far as im concerned, id only order from others if Taylors didn't  have it....

Back in the 80's I bought an Uberti 1851 Navy .36 Cal. BP from Dixie Gun Works. I shot about 12 balls through it & the cylinder pin loosened up. I returned it to Dixie with no problem & they quickly sent me another one. Only this one must of been hand picked. The finish, fit & wood on it was alot better. When you have machines doing most of the work, and your putting out products as fast as you can, quality can suffer. I believe Colt revolvers are hand fitted, but they also ask the price for them.

I have been very pleased with the customer service from Dixie Gun Works, too. Twice had occasion to return a firearm and they sent back a better firearm each time, no questions asked. I'm sure they hand selected it each time, looking them over and dis-assembling them to make sure it did not have the same problem as the one I had returned. Oddly, both were the same model(Leech & Rigdon) and were returned because they would not come apart and go back together easily, although purchased many years apart.

My only problem with Taylors is that they include items in their catalog that do not currently exits - e.g, the R&D Conversion cylinder for the 1863 Pocket Remmy.  When I tried to order one, the nice lady at Taylors explained that it was in their catalog because Kenny Howell said one was planned.  But even R&D doesn't one list in THEIR catalog. :( :'(

These kinds of issues are common with most if not all of the major distributors in the USA.  If you look on the Taylor website you will still see Remingtons made by the Hartford Armory for sale.  Well there havent been any available or being made for at least 2 years.  Companies put things on their websites or keep things on the websites due to agreements with manufacturers or because they try to estimate the interest of people ordering items once they come out.  Another well known case in point is the Richards Transition model at Cimarron. :-[    Conversely,  I just received 2 Top Break Model 2s from Taylors that are not advertised on the website yet because they are so new to Taylors.   I make it a practice to never oder online and always call to talk to a warm body.   Safe shooting. Cimarron has a photo under R/M conversions of an Army grip with a 4 3/4 " barrel. I call and inquired,,,Marcy says,,,'Ain't no such creature.'

However, Tammy at Taylors tells me...that like the R type 2,,,its in the making.

So, Deadeye is exactly right about websites.  Use them as a guide, but do not rely on them as the last word.

Last year I bought two Uberti 1858's through Taylors.  It was such a pleasant experience, that I recently
bought an 1860 Henry through them.  Turns out, the one I ordered wasn't what I got.  Somehow, the
box was mis-labled. After giving them a call I decided to get the one I really wanted.  I drove down to
Taylors (I'm about 15 mi away), dropped off my "wrong" Henry, and they let me hand pick my replacement.
Now that's what I call customer service.  Definitely a good company to deal with.

Also, you should see their showroom!

Ok now I am really jealous.  You live 15 miles away from Taylors!!!!!!   But then again if they were that close to me I might get in a lot of trouble.

Safe shooting. Deadeye.
