My own little gunsmithing project.  I bought this gun as a second, and got it cheap ($300 gun for $175).  Half and full cock didn't always work, and the trigger didn't always "drop the hammer".  The front post sight was buggered up, so I lopped an inch and 3/8 off of it.  Gunsmith wanted $20 plus parts to cut I dovetail for a new front sight, I bought a cheep $3 needle file set, and cut my own dovetail (it ain't perfect)!  Spend 5 or 6 hours fiddlin and filing the internals, and now, she runs smooth as silk!

Looks like you, or someone, also opened up the nipple windows to get the nose of a capper to fit in there.

I bribed a machinist at work to open 'em up on the mill ... I really like my snail capper, detest having to fill straight line cappers with sooty, greasy fingers!

Question:  Am I reading that righT?  You cut the barrel down and inch and something and then reinstalled a front sight?  So I could make a usable gun out of this crazy 12 inch 1858 remington I have?

I have cut the Pietta 58 Remy to 4 3/4" Gunslinger. I have also cut 2 Euroarms to 4 #/4" gunslingers. Those that have them now (I sold to buy originals) love them. At least two owners frequent this forum or the SCORRS forum.

I say thankya, thankya, thankya BIG BIG!

I love the new look on the pistol.  I cut it down with no problem.  A little finish sanding, and the dovetailing of a front sight and it'll be range ready.  THe pistol was a Yule gift from my father, who in my youth taught me the joys of guns.  I hated to have it sitting in a chest... but I didn't have the training wheels for the muzzle to be able to shoot the darned thing.  :D

Much obliged, gents.
