I am looking at getting a pair of boots from the Thomas Lincoln site (http://tlbootsnbrogans.org/)...My first question is:

Is rough side out period correct?

I am wanting a pair of their brown boots and the smooth side out are not really availible in my size...I usully take a 12, they say order a size smaller and they are out of size 11, so I would have to get an 11 1/2...the next question is:

Does anyone have experince with these boots and their sizing?

Thanks!

Little Al,

Some of the brogans used in the Civil War were rough side out. Although, according to Fugawee Historical Footwarehttp://www.fugawee.com/, most of the brogan issued to the military were smooth side out.

If you want visit the Fugawee web site they have some articles on footwear from the French and Indian War through the Civil War that might be helpful to you.
