Recommended BP or substitutes?

I've been looking at alot of BP substitutes lately. Cabela's has something called "American Pioneer". Of course there's Pyrodex. Hodgdon 777...

So I was curious. Is real BP preferred over substitutes? Are some substitutes "better" than others? I've heard some are easier to clean up, how much?

This isn't for cartridge reloading, just for my 1858 Remmie.
