There's town watershed land that borders our property.  The town and state manage it together FOR HUNTING.  Turkeys and deer with shotgun only.  There is a review "town meeting" every 3 years to see if it is still OK with the people that live along the boundries of the property marked for hunting.  I don't hunt and I like to see the wildlife wandering around in the "back 40".  Only 2 other residents showed up besides me, both with complaints.  I stated that the hunters never came too close, were always polite if I saw them as the were entering or leaving and I was happy to have the land used by the hunters.  All true.
It was a 15 minute drive to the hall and the meeting lasted 27 minutes.  Less than an hour of my time and a little bit of gas.
It didn't take much to do a little something positive for fellow shooters.

Thank You Lou, a non-hunter that understands, rare.  By proper managment that includes the harvest of the extra you have helped assure that the wildlife will be there for you to watch.

When I don't have a gun and a tag I enjoy just watchin', heck sometimes when I'm huntin' I end up watchin'.  Few how don't understand wildlife management realize nature will take care of the surplus, but often in a less humane way than an ethical hunter will and no one benifits.

Here in SE Newbrasskey there has been a effort to reduce the deer population before disaster strikes, although I am not able to hunt this year, my freezer has benifited, I will be adding the 3rd one tommorow, plus there have been some freezer cleaning that added parts of some of last years harvest, and yes it is a harvest of a re-newable resourch and if handled and cooked properly some wonderful eatin'.  None that I have been given will be eaten as anything but what it is, there are plenty of cows and pigs to make sausage and jerky out of.

My lard and butter encrusted, floured and chock-o-litestained cookin' and huntin' hat will be tipped to you fine lady.

If you run out of room in your freezer there are organizations like Sportsman against Hunger that will take extra game and distribute it to needy families, soup kitchens, and relief organizations.  I highly recommend thinking of them when you clean out your freezer.

That concludes our public service announcement.

Thats a good post JD. There are many who hunt and eat a bit here and there and that is a good thing to do with it.  One thing though, as far as I know these places only accept meat butcher by a licensed establishment.  None of mine ever sees such a place, dad's garage and my kitchen are the butcher shop.

Don't worry none of mine will go to waste, I don't plan one buyin' any beef for me to eat till after the first of the year, my wife will, but I have changed to a venison diet for a while, but what I have won't last much beyond the end of the year, I am a carnyvoore and young venison is my favorite meat. ;D

I forgot to mention..... I don't know how to hunt, but I do know how to EAT  ;D
I heard on the radio today that 210 people had been killed in car-meets-deer events in the last year.
Guess encouraging hunters may be good for your health!

Well, I'm not a hunter either.  However, I'm not going to "deny" others the privilege, so long as they are respectful.

Thank you Lou, you have a lot of class.

Both of my children were raised on venison, and my oldest plans on joining me in the deer woods next year after she passes the hunter saftey course. I can hardly wait for the day when she harvests her first deer.
