I am compiling a list of great characters of the old west that nobody (except some of us history nuts) has heard of.

D. Boone May is on the list along with Bass Reeves, N.K. Boswell and Fred Burnham.

Now I have respect for Wyatt Earp, but these guys deserve a movie before we get another one about Wyatt.

I have gone to some of the sources listed on the Daniel Boone May linked story, and have used them in my "Originals" documentation.  May was probably in the class with Hickock, but Harper's never did an article about him.

Will Dearborn

Here's one for you, Books.  He's no GREAT and mighty hero...  but...

John Burns of Gettysburg was past 70 when the battle was fought.  He hobbled into battle on a crutch (as a civilian), was wounded three times, and is rumored to have taken out at least two COnfederate soldiers half his age.  He was noted enough that Matthew Brady took his picture.

Long days and pleasant nights,
Will
