I've been shooting 1858 Remingtons for 5 years, I went to Thunder Ridge nipples about 3 years ago and all my problems went away.

Now after all this time their website says to use #11 Remington's for caps. I use # 10 Remingtons.

My question is what is the difference between 10 & 11's?  Some say diameter some say length. WHat is it?

#10's are a trifle smaller, hence snugger.  ;)

If you have found a magic combination that actually works, stock up and don't question it.

#10 are supposed to be smaller than #11

Some brands #11's are smaller than other brands #10's, and visa versa.

Some brands have also changed size over time.

Some stock nipples are really better than aftermarket nipples, and visa versa.

So, if it works, buy extra caps and nipples before something changes.

howdy, rem 10's are a little bit smaller in diameter, however they are longer and go further down the nipple. fwiw i use thunder ridge nips on my 58's and rem 10 caps, this combo works great for me.

I have never measured and both sizes fit my treso and ROAs nipples just fine. The #11 are for sure shorter, but I have never had trouble with either size, but......................I use a snail capper and #11s will turn over sideways in it. That is a major inconvienience so I always buy #10 Remingtons.  :)

Had the same problem with the rem 11's falling over in the straight line cappers............not a prob with the rem 10's
