We usually shoot together if at all possible. At Tombstone this weekend we were shooting on posse 3 and had a great day. Day 2 (Disaster) First stage got up and shot my pistole's using the little 150 boolit and all went well so far. Grabbed the 66 and fired one round . then LOCKUP nothing moving. Handed it off . finished with the shotgun. Went to unloading table and checked the rifle . Emptied it out and checked it . Could not find anything wrong. Least that is what I thought. SO Stupid is as STUPID does I went for stage 2. Same result. at this time we find the extractor has gone south. So I tell the Pards I'll just shoot my pistole's and my shotgun for the rest of the match and take the rifle misses. NOTHING DOING when I got to my cart there was a 73 in 44/40 and 100 rounds sitting in a box on top of my cart.

Thank you Cactus Cris

We both shot the same rifle for the rest of the match. And a fine rifle it is I might add ;)

Thanks Cat-Cus

That is indeed, "The Cowboy Way".  Way to go CC!!

I've had a similar experience and Coyote Cap handed me his rifle to finish the stage.  Luckily, I had another rifle at the match and was able to switch and complete the match.

When an opportunity to help a pard comes up, True Cowboys will come forward.  This is one more reason I really enjoy Cowboy Action Shooting.

My words echo Marshal harpoluke's. He fixed the front sight on one of my'92s, now I can see what I'm shooting at with that rifle. He's a good 'un!! ;)

Mason & all Thx for the kind words.    Wasn't sure that ole Mason could shoot a rifle full of "REAL" powder.  :o ;)  Now I know that my old 73 CAN go really fast and still hit the target.  Must be the dude behind it that makes it go really fast. ::) :P   Plus I got to see & hear how LOUD them 30gr 2f & Mav D. rounds are!!!! :o  Know why my ears are ring'n after a match.  Might be the shot gun loads too? ???

Ok CC, You've raised the bar.  Among BP shooters we shall have a Cactus Chris award for Sportsmanlike Conduct above and beyond that expected of mere heathen fad smokeyless shooters.

Enjoy the thanks.  You earned 'em and your example is one for Soot Lords to emulate.  Long live the Brotherhood of the Soot!

Hear hear!! (This is where I raise my tankard)

I had a similar experience back in the mid 1990s. On a two day annual match 3 of the 4 guns I started with broke (TWO pistols lost hand springs [ASMs] and the shotgun started misfiring). I borrowed guns from my good friend and fellow BP shooter who got me into this game, Tumbleweed Thom (SASS#2XX) and managed to beat him with his own guns. He never let me forget that one. All in fun, though. That was when there were only about 3 categories: Traditional, Modern, and Black Powder. Ever since I take a spare or two of everything so I need not borrow from anyone and can loan to those in need.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

I have found that the "cowboy way" is more prevelant among the shooters of the Holy Black that the heathen powders...

I had a Pard by the name of RD Henry loan me his prized Winchester when my BRAND NEW Marlin went south on the first stage of it's first match.... I inadvertantly beat him with his own gun... I actually felt bad there for a second.... Then I remembered that he was one of the orginial partners that corrupted me to begin with.  ;D

About a year later, I got to pay it forward with another soot shooting partner, when after the first stage he discovered that his ammo supply had been tainted by lube cookies and his powder was fouling to the point of several misfires..... so I went to the truck and brought back enough ammo to supply the pard for the remainder of the match. He appreciated it, and turned right around and beat me with my own bullets!!! What comes around goes around, and if you follow that "golden rule", and treat a pard the way you would want to be treated, it will put a smile on both of your faces at the end of the day!

Almost forgot... I've possed with Cactus Chris, and I can second the general opinion... He is a fine pard and a true gentleman of the game. Then again, Mason is no sloutch in this department either.
