Because the rifle is committed to sale, I thought there would be no harm in posting these photos.

Hello SSS, for your information:

The above 1860 Spencer is currently being advertised for sale at Cabelas according to Big Hext  as stated in his last post on this thread.

These same photos were used in an advertisment at Gunbroker.com by a SCAMMER.  The SCAMMER'S ad was eventually pulled by Gunbroker.com because it was a fraudulent listing.  This information appeared on the Auction Arms Forum website in their Scammer forum.

The finish is, as far as I can tell, correct.  The carbine was refinished, by the arsenal, when the Stabler cutoff was installed.

Two Flints, was the scammer using these exact photos?  I took these photos myself, about a month ago.  Maybe we'll have to start putting an overlay on the photos.  Strange.

Adios,

Thank you for being you.. Annie Lee!

Big Hext,

Yup, they are the same photos, same Spencer with the same serial number.  I saved the listing page from Gunbroker.com, but I would rather not post it on SSS for privacy reasons.

It would be pretty easy to copy the photos from the Cabelas web site and use them to set up an ad at Gunbroker.com or any other auction site, for that matter.

Funny,  I was going to post those Cabela photos on SSS just to let others drool over that fine Spencer.  Do you know what the saelling or asking price was for it?

If you took the photos yourself, live and in person, great photography!

That is scary... would you email me the page?  I need to forward it on.

Thanks, I have a good time when I get behind the camera.  We have had excellent guns for a while now.  An engraved Henry 1st Model is in our store as well.  The asking price was $9,000.00, with a wrapper of original cartridges.

***for information purposes only***
We recently came into possession of a Spencer Sporting Rifle, chambered in 56-42 (I think that is right, gun is not in front of me)  A very rare rifle, in fair condition.  Look for photos online in the near future.

Adios,

  Howdy Pards!

I obviously do not know for sure...

   But..

A late pard and I had had several Civil War era carbines and rifles "restored" by a local pard who uses the period methods of blueng and color -case-hardening to restore arms to their original appearance.
When an original that is extremely sharp and crisp but "in the gray" is fully restored in such a manner, they look "Mint unissued."

It was not "that expensive" to have done- roughly between $250 and $350 per gun for carbine or rifle.

The "restorer" is a professional, who makes his living restoring antique as well as modern guns for insurance companies in the case of disasters like flood water or fire damage as he can "return" guns to their original condition in most cases far far cheaper for the insurance copies than the cost of replacing the damaged guns...

IMHO, this is a similar piece.

Actually, Rock Island Arsenal auctioned off many mint condition Spencers a couple of years ago. They had either never been issued (mostly 1865 Models) or had been arsenal refurbished (mostly Model 1860's). I saw the color sales catalog and they were mint condition.
