Howdy does anyone know  the history of this style of hat. When were they invented.

I did a search on the internet and i did not see anything i typed in history of service hats.

St. George

Look for 'Montana Peak' or 'Campaign Hat' - you'll find a number of references.

  Howdy Pards!

In the military, IMHO, often times the "regulation" comes about to cement or "legitimatize" past practices..   ;)  :)

Period images of the later 1880's and 1890's sometimes show soldiers with their campaign hats reworked to have "Montana Peaks."  As well as in the 1900's before the "fashion" was regulation with the M1911 campaign hat...
