Figured I'd start here, since the two pairs of pistols already in the photo fit this forum.  Here are my current cowboy guns.  At the top is a Henry (.44 Spl.) and two 1861 navies.  This set is for Frontiersman.  Next is a 66 rifle with a pair of OTs, all in .44 Spl. for Frontier Cartridge.  At the bottom is my new 73 rifle.  The two empty pistol cases need to be filled with appropriate revolvers for Classic Cowboy.  These will be my smokeless guns.  Looking for something 1873 and later in style.  So all of you Photoshop filks here is a chance to fill in the blanks with what you think I should get!

these

but they're always Schoefields or some Thunderers/Lightnings

Hell-Er High Water

Dusty,

Why not shoot the Open Tops with appropriate smokeless loads?  They were a very common revolver for many, many years after 1873.

Yep, you have the affliction... ain't no cure  ;D

whattobuynextidus....

though, I agree with High Water and OT's it won't cure ...nextidus

How about a pair of Uberti Remington forged frame factory conversions.. that will keep you headed in the "out of the ordinary"
direction with the rest of us.

Schoefield's not a choice bad either....

FILL IN THE BLANK,,,,?,,,thats a 'trick' question boys,,,AINT no bad 'cowboy' revolvers.  Since all your others 'match',,,why not try a mixed pair....different barrel lenghts maybe....different models or makes?

I love that mix and match thing...I like to carry my 1860Army cap and ball with my '72OT...use the '60 if'n i got time,,and have OT on stand-by.

But again, im thinkin' in terms of 'real time' afield carry and not matches here. But, still, a mixed deal is neat..

I am kinda leaning toward some SAA clones or Remmie 75s.  Schofields are neat, but pricy.  The new Remmie conversions have caught my eye, but I am kind of on a technological trajectory here.

Seth and I are on the same page...

However ....you said ...
"The new Remmie conversions have caught my eye, but I am kind of on a technological trajectory here."

in that case ... then I'd look at the Cimarron Evil Roys or if you have the extra extra jingle ...USFA

I think I am about jingled out!  May be able to swing the slicked up Cimarrons, though.  Also considering the Great Western II Californians.

Coffinmaker

Dusty,

I currently consider the Pietta built guns as Best Bang for the Buck guns.  Either EMF GW II or the Charles Daly.  Same guns, different names stamped on 'em.  Little if any tuning needed.  Throw in a set of springs and GO!!

Yep! I have heard the same, Coffinmaker.  I think the GW IIs w/action job will work fine.

Dusty: You are a man of discriminating taste. I feel you are ready for a pair of special pistols to go with your Winchester 73. A pair of pistols that nobody else has...
Obviously a Winchester 73 ought to be accompanied by a pair of (replica) Colt SAA 73's. My suggestion is to get yourself a pair of blackpowder frame Colt clones with the shortest barrel possible WITH ejector housing, in your favorite caliber .44 Special.
A couple of years back a friendly dealer Uberti dealer over here arranged for me and some friends a mini series of 4" barrel Uberti SAA's with ejector, altogether 4. We were inspired by Hank Williams Jr who has similar Colts. Mine is in .45 Colt with the "smokeless" frame, and is a great shooters at CAS distances and beyond, and it sure look like a Bullie. If I were doing it today again I would have it in .44 Special caliber, however, shooting .44 Colt out of it. Would have made with all the features of the Evil Roy Model.

Thanks Major for the pic of the Cimarron pistol. Is that the 3,5" or the 4" barrel version?
Here is a pic of my 4" from the mini series. I would love it with the blackpowder frame. Grips are from Gripmaker.

3 1/2 "  that very gun it is for sale through my friends FFL , photo is from the Store Website.
I actually placed the order for it for him. And got to handle it when it came in
It's a BP frame and comes with both the knurled easy to remove and the standard slot screw.
It is in 45 Colt.
