Ottawa Creek Bill

After much consulting with my daughter Margaret and son William, yesterday I gave my favorite 1866 Yellow Boy Carbine to my son-in-law Austin...Good kid and my daughter and I couldn't have done better. This kid is like a second son and will do anything for you.

This means he will be able to shoot his first NCOWS match at the Nationals this year....and he is going to shoot in the "Originals" category.

I'm in the process of writing a persona for him and since he was born in Texas, it will be based on the Texas Rangers in the early 1870's. Austin is also part Choctaw Indian so I'll work that into his impression.

This is the same rifle I used in the painting I did for NCOWS last year and was given away at last years convention. Oh well...the just means I'll have to shoot my Uberti Henry now on a regular basis........

Bill,    Seems as though Austin lucked out with having a great father-in-law as much as you with him.  I am sure he will do you proud with your (his) 1866 at the nationals.  Deadeye.

Bill: What coincidence :o, on the day you gave up your 1866 carbine mine arrived at the gun emporium. I just bought one for my daughter and I to use in mounted shooting. I must say that there is nothing more beautiful in the gun world than brass highlighted by red varnish - oh well I guess that is what God made Klean Strip for ;D That will be taken care of this weekend.

Wasn't your daughter and son-in-law at the Nationals last year? I thought I had a picture of them.

James,
Yes they were there last year but neither of them shot, they also joined NCOWS at the National shoot last year. So, this will be Austin's first official NCOWS shoot........and he can't wait.

Mike,
You and the wife are family.....but most here on the NCOWS forum don't know me and mine like you do.....some of them (because of my supposed reputation) wouldn't want to be part of my family.....because of their perception of me ;) ;)

You and I, Curry and Dale Payne have spent a lot of time and years on the trails and in the Mountains of the east.....Eating things most people wouldn't, sleeping where most people wouldn't if they could. But when you've spent a good part of your life in the woods with a lifer Green Beret (Smitty) those are things you just do...... ;) ;) Hope to see you at Hooten this year....

Bill would that be a steel frame or brass?  I love the look of the steel frame.

Tommy.....
All 1866 Winchester's and Uberti 1866 clones were made with the brass or brass alloy receivers.....don't think they were ever made with steel or iron.

Sorry I meant the Henry.  I have both and love them as well.  Although I usually shoot the '66 musket more than the Henry.

Your a good man.. I did something like that a few years back except it was my nephew and it was a Marlin ..
But the gesture... had the direct effect of making my Henry my main match gun... not a bad thing and opended the door ...
