A blued 5 1/2 goes on order tomorrow.

HAd to tell SOMEONE...  figured you guys might like to know.

One stainless....one blued.  Ebony and Ivory.

:D

Yeah.  IT's a great big pain in the saddle pad....

You need a permit from the sheriff of the county you live in...NOT where the gun shop is.  And they don't  issue open ended ones.  So...

You go to the shop.  Pick what you want.  Get a serial number, make, model, etc...go to the sheriff's and get your background checked out.

Pay 'em 10 bucks.

Get a "Permnit to Purchase a Concealable Firearm" detailing the gun, your name, adress, employer, occupation ht. weight. Driver's license number phone number.  Who sold it to you and the FFL of the dealer.

Doesn't take long... it just strikes me as... invasive that I have to do it EVERY TIME I buy a handgun.

BUt if it keeps me arming bears, I'll put up with it.

It's that only for buying one thru an FFL or also from a private party?

You DON'T buy from a private party.  You go through a FFL, as far as I know.

Black powder rifles/pistols are exempt, though.  You can order from a catalog and have it sent to your house.

Is it that bad up in Wisconsin Slim?

Here you go pay your money fill out two pages and wait 20 minutes or so and go home.  You can buy 1 handgun a month.  If you have a carry permit >Sod Buster are you reading this?< you can buy several in a month.(at least what you can afford)

In WI, you can buy as many handguns a month as you have money. If you buy them thru a dealer you have to fill out the gun transfer forms and wait 48 hours (a cool off period ::) ) 'fore you can take it home. If you buy it from a private party you don't have to do any paperwork or wait 48 hours.  ;D

Ozark Tracker

here in Arkansas, buy all you want or got the money for, fill out the sheets bout 10-20 minutes later walk out the door with your gun.
Private party, just exchange money and guns.  they have a radio call in show on the local station, they have pistols and rifles advertised every day. just write down the telephone number.

For once, I LIKE the Arkansas way.

In NE, we have "The Nebraska Buyers Card".
With it, you get your gun immediately.  No NICS call required.

Remember fellas, no matter what state you live in, if you buy more than two (or is it 3?) handguns in one week the FFL holder has to fill out a special form for the ATF with your info on it.

I have bought 3 in a week without this.

I like the card ideal.

You know... I don't think I've ever bought a gun from a person and not a shop.  I have a family member who's wanting to give me a pair of Colt .45s.... so I guess in a month or two, after I've found out how to transfer them, I'll get back to you.

Mustang Greg:

Couldn't take the suspense anymore...

So I called the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department here in MO.

They said it's just like buying from a dealer.  The sheriff needs the make/model/serial number... and you need to obtain a permit to purchase a concealable firearm from the sheriff.  Then you can go ahead and buy the gun.

I suppose (and what I'm going to do) that, with a private sale, you can go ahead and take the gun, and then take the serial numbers, etc to the sheriff to get the permit.

Long days and pleasant nights,

Howdy, Will:

You may want to look up SCS HCS 62 (Missouri Senate Bill 62).  It passed the Senate earlier this month and in the House this week.  All it is waiting on is the Gov's. signature, which he has pledged to do.  It eliminates the PTA (permit to acquire, or pain in the a**) when the bill becomes law, which here in Misery should be end of August.  Then we will be able to buy pistolas like the free citizens we are, without the permission slip from our county sheriff.  It also has Castle Doctrine language in there to.  A good "double-win" for us Misery-ians...
