Howdy to the campfire: finally I got my cowboy friend from the Lone Star State infected with the virulent OT-virus.
Now he is shopping around for a decent pair of Uberti Open Tops in .44 Colt (my suggestion) or .45 Colt caliber (his Ruger OMV background), with standard 7" barrel, Army or Navy grip, doesn't matter. The pistols are to be used in the occasional CAS match.
He didn't succeed in finding a pair so far.
Any suggestions where he should try? Pre-owned would be OK if the "mileage" is low, too.

Howdy Bootsie,
Has your pard checked "Gunbroker.com", they
usually have 4 or 5 pieces on there.

I hear tell Germany gets Uberti conversions before the Americans do.  ;D ;)  Try gunsamerica.com as well.

Hell-Er High Water

At this time Gunbroker.com has 3 listings for Open Tops in either 44 Special or 44 Colt.  One for a single gun and two for consecutivly serial numbered pairs.  One pair with 5-1/2" barrels and one pair with 7-1/2" barrels.

I shoot 44 Russian loads in my Cimarron 44 Special Open Tops and my 44 Colt R-M Conversion on a regular basis with no problems.

He might give these a look.

Goody

Where in Texas? It's a big place. I might know someone local to him that he could order from, through.

Goody

Brutha Daves in Arlington, a 30 minute drive from Dallas. He shows to have a pair at $399 each in stock. Have your buddy give him a call, tell him Goody sent him.

Hello to the campfire: my Texas friend's new pair of Open Tops should be at his local dealer's "with a little help from my friends" (Joe Cocker) by tomorrow. Thanks for your helpful suggestions. I reckon we are about to see a very happy cowboy soon joining the ranks of STORM.
Fox Creek Kid: can you ever forgive me? Italy is closer to Germany as she is to the US of A...which seems to be advantageous sometimes. I just happened to be at the right spot at the right time when the pistol hit the deck...grabbed her and ran, virtually.
