Just bought a NIB cased CVA 61 Navy originally purchased in 1989.  Since I have been looking for civilian 61s, it seems a good deal.  Do not have it in hand.  In fact, just sent the "I'll take it" reply to a pard over on the SASS Wire.  What is the quality of these?  I have had a couple of CVA ML rifles over the years, but no wheel guns.  Did I choose well?

Dusty, don't put a conversion cylinder in the gun if the "61" has a brass frame,do you know who makes the CVA revolvers? I have been trying to get an answer to this question on this forum. Dusty NutSack.

years ago I had a "51 Navy" a kit and after I put it together it was a good shooter BUT its not a Uberti or Pietta quality wise, they are a bit on the crude side,I also picked up a Hawkin .50 cal. kit and this turned out to be a nice rifle and a great shooter- with the revolvers it seems to be a luck of the draw(bad pun?)BUT they are a good buy money wise if you have a low too no budget IMHO. Dusty NutSack. PS: Someone once told me they (CVA)were made in India and I know a-lot of replica swords and arms come from this country.

These were made by Uberti and imported by CVA.  It has a steel frame and brass backstrap.  At least this is what my research has turned up.

UPDATE:
Got the 61 today.  Very well finished.  A bit tarnished from being handles alot, but not fired.  NOT made by Uberti.  Underside of barrel has ASM [Armi San Marco] BLACK POWDER ONLY CAL. 36  MADE IN ITALY stamped on it.  One thing I do like about it is that all of the inspector marks are on the underside of the barrel and frame.  Only stamp on side of frame is the CVA logo.

Dusty,do you know what year it was made,if not, look for the letters they should be inside a square,I have date codes. One of the R&D conversion cylinders should fit this gun I would think. Dusty.

Dusty:
The booklet is stamped 1989.  The year code is PN.

Halfway Creek Charlie

PN is a proof mark.
Look for two letters inside a box or roman numerals, usually on the frame somewhere near the proofs.

Call or email R & D Gunshop and ask which of their cylinders will fit the ASM. Do the same with Kirst if you go that direction.

This one is going to stay a percussion gun.  Got a couple of OTs to keep me busy with caartridges. Besides thr PN there are several stars, a crest of some kind and a letter B under what looks like an inverted V.

The Avocado Kid

Dusty, the inverted V is an A and is probably a lite stamp so...AB is 1976 the case may be a later case that did not orig.come with the gun"The booklet is stamped 1989"not the gun, nor the case ;).The date codes and proof marks are put on the guns at the time just before the guns are shipped, that stage would be at the proof house(Italian government),At least that's what I was told many years ago.You can never have enough conversion guns ;D,then you have the best of both worlds,Hope this helps,Dusty. PS: The revolver is a real beauty!  ;D  Thanks for telling me the markings on your gun now, I know who made the 1851 Navy I have but the one I have is not as nice as yours(brass frame-cheaper)and no makers mark, quality control I guess.
