As far as I know, there are really only 2 big sources for 56-50cf brass.

Starline makes nice brass, but, its VERY thick and has to be annealed in order to get a good neck resize going.

Winchester 348 brass is pretty expensive to be cutting down and resizing. Plus, its a big hassle.

50-70 govt brass will work, but, again, it spretty stiff stuff. And the same price as 56-50cf brass from Starline anyhow.

Well, I was reading some where that Magtech 28g shotshell hulls are much thinner and closer to the Spencer dimensions.

Has anyone tried cutting down a case to see how it would work?

Are there "specs" online that describe what a 28g hull should be like?

Anyhow, I thought I had read that a cut down 28g hull from starline would add almost 7gr of powder capacity to wildcat cartridge.

Marcot's book references over 48gr of powder inside a balloon head case along with a 350gr bullet. The 350gr bullet is fine, but, getting any more than 42gr of powder under a bullet is impossible w/o MAJOR powder compression and bullet deformation at the nose.

DON'T!!!! They are D A N G E R O U S!!!! One fella on the GOEX forum tried some of these Brazilian brass cases and the first two pierced primers sending hot gas in his face!! There's a reason companies switched to solid head cases.  ;)
