Help Please.

I just had the back starp and trigger guard for one of my Pietta 1851 Navys nickel plated.

In the plating they let some nickel get into the screw holes so I need to re-tap them before I can put it back together.

Can anyone tell me what size metric tap to use for the Main Spring Screw hole and the Front Trigger Guard Screw hole.

Thanks for any help.

They may not be metric.
Take the screws to  a gunshop that sells screws and check out the threads size, any machinist may have a screw thread Gauge, maybe in metric and us threads.

The Pietta triggerguard screws should be M4 x 0.70.   This is so close to a #8-36 that you can use that if you can't find the metric tap.  Even the #8-36 won't be found at Ace Hardware or Home Depot.  You might have to find an industrial supply store.

Pietta's SAA Hammer spring screw is M5x0.80.   That translates to .190-.194-32.  So try a #10-32 tap.

This presiumes that Pietta uses the same screw for their Cap = & ball as they do for their SAA.  The grip screws will be the same on both, but you can check your Mainspring screw with a #10-32 nut for fit.

HalfWay Creek Charlie & Flint

Thank you both for the information.

That gives me a starting point.

I figure trying the 10-32 nut will be my first step and then go from there.

Thanks again!
