Marlin 1894 Sights - Thoughts please

Went to the gun show last night.  I was looking at the 41 or 44 mag lever action rifles for just plinking and general purpose rifle.  I kind of unexpectedly liked the Marlin 1894 in Stainless Steel with the 20" round barrel.   I also looked at the cowboy model and the Henry.  I thought the Marlins were studier but not as fancy as the Henry.

The one thing I did not like about the Marlins - especially the SS with 20" barrel was the sights - the rear is a flimsy cheap looking ramp and the front is hooded.  I see it is tapped for scope but I cannot see scoping a quick shooting little lever action like that - seems wrong.  But maybe today people scope everything so they did not invest much in the factory sights.

Anyway, I think a peep sight rear maybe more appropriate - because I think they are pretty fast.  I don't know about the front

I would be interested in knowing what the thought of the members here on the stock sights and what rear/front replacements I could use and how much of a big deal installing them would be.  Thanks.

If you aren't going to plink too far out, the Marbles full buckhorn is a sight that works really well. I use them on my Marlins for short sidtance CAS shooting and they do the trick for my ol' eyes. I got them from Brownells.  :)

This is the Marbles full-buckhorn rear sight that Howdy Doody referred to. I use one on my Marlin as a ghost ring. To install: tap out the factory sight with a brass and wooden punch and tap the new one in the same way the other one came out.

There are tang sights, but the rifles tang may need to be drilled and tapped to accept one.

This is the Marbles tang sight. It has adjustment knobs for windage, which makes it cost more than the Lyman one below.

This is the Lyman #2 tang sight.

WARNING: These are not allowed for CAS.

This is the Lyman receiver sight.

I don't know what replacements are available for the front ramp sight. I think most people take the hood off.
