Just got my new Uberti Remmie New Army 1858 with 5 1/2" Barrel, it is a beauty but I need some advice. On my Old Remmies 8" barrel the cylinder pin comes out with no problem.

On the new Remmie the cylinder pin will not come all the way out because it hits the Barrel Catch/Lever Retainer.

I have installed a Kirst Konverter with loading port and am now attepting to install a Kirst Cylinder Pin with Ejector. Can the Barrel Catch be drifted out or is it soldered on?

I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks for any help?

I prefer to cut the cylinder pin out and joint it using a link from Morse Chain. I also have made the link. It is a lot easier and you don't have to worry about wearing out the rammer latch slot. I don't have any right now or I'd post a picure.

I also jointed two Kirst ejector cylinder pins for the 4 3/4" Remy Gunslingers I built. You do that so the wing folds sideways to the barrel.

I have made them for other folks that want to be able to fully clean their 5 1/2"and 6 1/2" bbl'd Remy's

Charlie:

Thank you for advice, I was considering cutting the pin, but had not yet decided too, but will probably go that way.

I have the Euroarms Gunslinger I purchased from you, so I can use that cylinder pin as a guide.

Thanks again.

AHA I thought the moniker sounded familiar! Yep use that as a guide, does the pin in that one fold down or sideways? I made two Kirst Cylinder Pins one folded down and one sideways. I like the sideways version the best. (Easier to cut and to make with the ejector shield on the pin.)
I forget which one you got. I sold two at once. Hope you like the Gunslinger. I particularlly liked the balance of them. There will be a some  more Gunslingers later in the year.

Charlie:

On my Gunslinger the pin has the ejector and turns to the side.

Great Little Revolver, I have enjoyed shooting it. Installed an old Kirst 45 Cylinder I had and shot some of the new 45 cowboy specials loaded with 700X Powder and 150 Gr EPP/UG Big Lube Bullets.

It's a good shooter and I had one heck of a good time.

Good Shooting.

Warbucks16,
I'm glad you like her. I knew she shot well, they both did. Cotton down in Key West has the other one and Old Baldy  on this forum has my first one, a Pietta 58 Remy Gunslinger. I'm an equal opportunity Gunslinger maker...LOL
I feel that Gunslinger itch coming on.

Charlie:

Got my new 5 1/2"  .45 Caliber Uberti Remmie the other day and was somewhat disappointed.  When it came the function was really rough and would not complete the cylinder rotation every time I cocked it. Stripped it down and found large burrs on the Cylinder pin hole below the Hammer, a large burr on the Hand and the hand opening and another large burr on the hammer screw hole.

Removed the burrs using fine emery paper and at the same time lightly emeryed the sides of all the movable parts.

Put her back together and am now happy, :) she is pleasure to shoot and a real nail driver using the new .45 Cowboy Specials I hand loaded.

This makes three Remmies now in the family and a lot of good shooting.

Regards,

I just did an action job on my Original Remy Armory Conversion today. Just a few burs here and there, but she's asmooth as a new baby's backside now. Along with a replacement hammer spring from Dixie, hat is a lightened up the hammer pull a lot.  I kept the original hammer spring but it is stiff enough to use on the bed of a dumptruck. Doing the action smoothing on my Gunsmith Original Conversion in the morning. Already replaced the original hammer spring.
