Ok, Pards, I started on it finally...just the holster itself...And I noticed it is very easy to mar up the surface of the leather, not really scratches, just kinda marred is the only word I can think of...is there anything to do to get these smudge marks out ?..or should I just be being more carefull in the first place. I still need to edge it better and sew...I learned alot so far, like I need to  handle the leather more carefully and the tools...I'm glad I bought one huge crap load of 3 different weights of leather. LOL

those mars may have been in the leather before you started.
you might have been able to get those marred spots blended in with a leather spoon before you dyed it.
now that you dyed it I don't think you can get rid of those mars.

it apears that the color is kinda thin on the backside of the holster main body but your skirt should cover that up.
your holster looks better than my first holster did.

My first holster didn't fit the handgun that i was making it for. i could do nothing to fix the holster.
big question now is will your handgun fit into the holster????
you can use small clamps to hold the holster together and slip the handgun in to see if it will fit.
you may want to do this before you sew because you may need to add a spacer up at the trigger gaurd area of the holster.
the space will go between both sides of the leather opening the holster up for the trigger gaurd to slip in easier.

did you put sealer on it yet?
i found out the hard way, not to put sealer on the holster till its formed to the handgun.
i dunk my holsters into water then stuff handgun into holster and form it with hands till its the way i want it. let it dry for 1 hour then take handgun out and let dry overnight. then double check fit of holster to handgun. now seal with your sealer.
i put sealer on holster one time before i formed it. the sealer prevented the leather from drying uniformly. i got light and dark spots all over the holster from water not drying out evenly.

you did great for your first holster.

Thanks...I just dyed it so far, I guess the flash is whats make it so shiney....wheeeeeeeew..I just checked my fit. man you are right, this is way close...I cut it to fit my Ruger and it is tight, ..So I checked my 1858 remy, and its perfect, So  I might do my belt for the extra remmington cylinder and make this one for that gun....unless  the ruger fits good affter its sewn.

knucklehead

It should be tight.
remember when you dunk it into water to soften up the leather for form fitting it will strech some.
Your ruger just may fit in the holster when you form fit it.

I dont put the holster in the skirt till after it has formed and dried.

good luck

I agree with Knucklehead. Great first holster, pard. I like it. Like Knuck said, you may want to see about wet molding it to fit. Check the FAQ thread for a link to how to wet mold if you're not familiar with it.

Thanks ...Its about half dry now, I did the wet mold, it fits perfect...what a relief..lol

It's almost unbelievable how much leather can stretch when needed.
