The East

The east gives peace and light.  East is closely associated with the sun.  It is the beginning, the sun rises to bring light and enlightenment to all creation, it is the spring of the year.  In the circle of life, the east represents childhood, the physical nature of man.  The color of the east is yellow.

The South

The south gives warmth.  Happiness and generosity are also associated with the power of the south.  Life begins in the south, and nourishment of every kind comes from there.  It is the summer of the year.  The south is the sun at it's highest point.  It is the place of youth and innocence.  It represents adolescence and the emotional nature of man.  The color of the south is red.

The West

The west gives rain.  West is where the sun sets and the day comes to an end.  It is the direction connected with the power of the rain, which is used to purify.  Joy and growth come from the rain and release ignorance.  West is the home of the powerful "Thunder-being", who stands against evil.  It is the place of the unknown, of dreams and introspection.  The west represents adulthood and the mental nature of man.  The color of the west is black.

The North

The north is the place of winter, it is the place of wisdom.  The north, with it's cold and mighty wind, gives strength and promotes endurance.  The north represents the elderly stage of life and the spiritual nature of man.  The color of the north is white.

I was glad to share this with my Pards.  Maggie Three Feathers and I make dream catchers, medicine wheels and other Indian stuff, and I decorate skulls.  I've done several steer skulls and many lesser animals.  Have been wanting to do a buffalo skull but until now, haven't had the $$$.   This could be the year of the buffalo skull.

Glad you all enjoyed the "Lakota Directions" post.   8)
