00buck out of a coach gun hurts!
« on: March 04, 2007, 08:54:47 AM »
I was practicing with my stoeger coachgun...cause I lose a lot of time reloadin it in a match.  Hmmm , had a couple of 3 inch 00buck shells in my ammo can.  Hmmm, lets try these out...BWAMMM...BWAMMM!!!!!   :'(  that tickled!!!!

It did throw a good pattern at 25 yards though... :'(

I just got my TTN coach gun.  I am curious what you all shoot in the coach guns for CAS shooting.  I have 00 buck shot for home defense but I suspect this would be overkill for CAS shoots.  Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

umm...no don't use 00buck for CAS shooting.  I was just tryin it out in my gun.   ::)

use low brass 6's or 7.5's  I use TOP GUN 7.5's low brass...they drop out of my chambers easily when I just hold my gun up.  You don't want to have to pick them out.  I already waste to much time fumbling my next two rounds in as it is.  But Iv'e been practicing reloading so hopefully I will be a lil faster this year.  Try a couple of different brands of shells and see what works best in your shotgun.

SASS restricts shot size to #4 or smaller.  Most clubs further restrict it to 7 1/2 and smaller.

I dont load shotshells,,,,I buy the 4 box case at Walmarts,,they are 'about' 18 dollars for the 4boxs.
I get the low brass lite skeet in 7 1/2s.
I dont think id set up to load shotshells with them being that cheap....unless in the future I wish to have black powder rounds for the TTN 'Colt '78' model.

My TTN '78' shoots good enough at 25 yards to have me thinking it might just be a decent rabbit gun for thick cover. Those 20" barrels would be super in a brair patch im thinkin'.

Good shootin',

I agree with you , marshal.  I think those short barrels would be perfect in tight cover.  I even thought about trying it out come deer season.  Most of my shots are within twenty yards anyway.

One day at the range, a couple of guys asked me to shoot some clays with them...the only shotgun I had with me that day was my coach gun.  They got a chuckle when I walked up to the line with this lil double barrel.   ;D  I hit more than I missed.  hehehe  but it wouldnt be my first choice for bird huntin.

Hmmm, been usin' a 28 gauge with either 3/4 or 7/8ths oz of shot in a skeet barrel, (0.005 constriction, between Imp Cy and Cy) for over 25 years.  The birds never seen to mind and mostly hit the ground dead, including an awful lot of wild ringnecks.   Two birds hit and lost in that time.  But then I don't shoot at the bird, I shoot at the head.  Ya can't see the head, don't shoot, amazing what this simple thing will do. ;)

I do load for both of us. In my TTN, I use Rem. STS hulls with 15.3g of American Select, a Rem. TGT. 12 wad( green), with 7/8ths oz. of chilled 7 1/2's or 8's( whichever is available when I've got to buy shot). the primer is a Rem. 209. These have handled all the KD's I've encountered in my area and work great on the pop up clays so far.
For storeboughts, I would suggest the AA low recoil-low noise target shells. They work great if you do your part and won't beat your shoulder to death...............Buck 8) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....
