Here is my first range report on the M'73 Wewoka Bill replacement carrier in a Uberti saddle ring carbine.  My carbine is in 44 Special and I am using 44 Russian cartridges in it with the new carrier.  Although the carrier was designed for the use of the 45 Cowboy Special cartridge in a 45 Colt rifle it works like a charm with the 44 Russian/44 Special conversion.  The carrier was furnished and installed by Hap at the Smith Shop in conjunction with an action job that he did for me.

I put approximatly 100 rounds of BP 44 Russian loads through the rifle without a hitch.  These loads are loaded with the 200 grain Mav Dutchman, Big Lube bullet.  Feed and function was flawless.

I went this route as I am shooting 44 Russians in my Open Top revolvers and it just seems simpler to be able to use the same round in both revolvers and rifle.  Swithcing back to the original caliber, 44 Special in this case, is as simple as replacing the new carrier with the original one, a 5 to 10 minute job.

For those contemplating this conversion, so far everything looks like it was a good choice.

HHW,  Good to hear your experience has been a good one.  There's a feller in Fl that christened his Wewoka Bill carrier in Cowboy .45 Special this past weekend and sent a very similar report.

I do believe this is gonna be a very popular option as time rolls along.

Now the (not so good) news.  Hap at The Smith Shop is gonna be out of action for a spell with some medical stuff, so there is gonna be a delay of maybe a couple of months on getting any more of these.

To the pards who read this, I am certain this is worth waiting for.  The carrier is absolutely well made and the early reports are encouraging to say the least.

Wewoka Bill, if yer reading this, ya done good.  Hap, you already know you done good :)
