Again this year GAF has been requested to provide the Color Guard for the opening ceremonies for the NCOWS 2007 National Convention.

Dates are February 16, 17, and 18th, 2007 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA. The Color Guard would be required around noon on Friday the 16th.

I will gladly volunteer as a color bearer, but my duties as Vendor Co-ordinator preclude me from assuming command as Co-ordinator of the Color Guard.

I am requesting volunteers from our membership, both as participants and for a Commander of the Color Guard.

This has been a very popular and well received feature of past Conventions.

I thought that the 2008 Convention was in Kansas City?

You are correct. Mea culpa, I meant 2007.

You can count me in also, if needed. Just remind me some time beforehand so I can get into uniform.

River City John

Thank you to all who've stepped forward. The more the merrier.
As we have done in the past, we had three colors,- National, State and NCOWS, with two flank guards. If enough, a Color Guard Commander on the outside.

Say six at full strength. Three as a minimum, which we've tentatively already met.

I would welcome any GAF who think they will be in attendance. If we are blessed with more than required we would form the supernumeraries on either side so as to pass the Color Guard in review. The real winning hand is to have at least one from each branch.

Thanks

Wearing my 1874 Cpl infantry uniform. Do I bring my 1873 also?

Dusty

River City John

Are you referring to a uniform, or a sidearm, Dusty? Any uniform is okay. Sidearm is optional, the flanks and Command render salute with sidearm, usually sword, and the bearers with hand salute. Does this answer your question?

As it looks now there will not be a need for a GAF Color Guard as planned for the NCOWS Convention.

I appreciate the response of those who stepped forward in volunteering for the Color Guard, but it was decided to forgo the opening ceremony due to conflicts preventing attendance by local dignitaries.

Pitspitr

I can't come (work fri/sat. and the kids track meet/recruiting trip sun.) and I have been verry frustrated by that fact. After I read about last year's I was planning on coming this year. I feel a little better about it now that at least I'm not missing a GAF color guard.

Well, I should know better than to make announcements prematurely. :D

It looks like a simple opening ceremony will, afterall, be requested of GAF for the 13th Annual NCOWS Convention, so would all those who offered to participate please pm me asap.

It would be greatly appreciated.
