Pards, I'm new here.  Been looking around awhile, but I haven't seen much posted on this subject.  Is the Marlin CB 24" 45LC a decent gun for CAS?  I know the newer ones are in 20" but to my eyes, that 24" looks a bit more balanced and handsome.  I dunno...just kinda cogitating out loud.

What d'yall think of that configuration?

El Mac, Pard I used a 24"er for years, I love it. SSSHHHHHHH, don't tell anyone cause they will say I am a liar but, I have been using an early model Taurus T'Bolt with a 26" barrel.  I do not find the longer barrels on rifle or shotgun to be a hinderance but then, I don't shoot fast enough for them to get in my way.  Go ahead and get it if you love it, it is totaly appropriate for CAS, and it might make a 75 yard deer gun.

That is all I think I know.

They are very good guns. I own two of the 20" ones. If I could find a 24" one in .44-40 for a reasonable price, I would buy it. I harvested a whitetail a couple years ago with my .45 Colt one.

Been shooting one of the 24's since I began the sport( 10 years) haven't had any trouble that wasn't my own doing. the Marlin is a great gun for CAS and is easy to maintain & clean( one screw and it's down for cleaning). Currently own four of the1894's in various calibers and one 1889...............Buck 8) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Adirondack Jack

It not only looks better balanced, it IS better balanced.  The 24 inch octagon BBL rifle balances on the forearm,so that you don't have to hold it tight against your shoulder to keep it from bobbing nose up as it is cycled.  The short BBL guns balance on the receiver, which is dandy for carrying one-handed afield, but means that when you aren't holding it up with the trigger hand, it wants to go nose up.

The longer pipe is not a real impediment in any way.

I'm glad to hear my thoughts seem to be correct re: the look and the balance.

Now I just have to determine if the Cimarron '73 in 24" is a better deal.
