Me and Old Top saw a couple of Uberti's with the charcoal blue on them yesterday, and the blue is real phoney looking (for lack of a better word) I don't think it is the same look as original charcoal or even the way Turnbull does it. Also, charcoal blue rubs off real easy. Ifn you haven't seen it, see if you can see one in person first to see ifn you like it....

Just make sure you like the look of the charcoal blue as you will pay extra for that from Cimarron or Taylors.

The charcoal blue is quite blue in tone. Looks sharp, but isn't very durable. Don't think i've seen but about two done that way around here in holsters, If you're going to be putting a lot of use on the gun, I'd suggest the standard or U.S. finish...........Buck

It isn't real charcoal blue. It's more of a nitre/fire blue.

It doesn't look good when scratched.

The ones I saw don't even look as good as fire blued. I have fire blued screws on my engraved Taylors and they are a deep blue. The blue we saw was much lighter and looked more like an alloy or something...I didn't like it atall....

Yes its the frisco model pearl handles.but I bought the plain 1873 cattleman

I also bought the plain Jane one with the brass.  My question is about the case hardening color.  Is it a color treatment that can come off, or is it real metal color caused by case hardening?

I was polishing the brass, and I am not sure if I cleaned some of the case hardening color off around the edges where the receiver meets the brass.

As for the CCH. some of it like the Turnbull stuff is in the metal and durable. I have a Taylors Cattlemen that has turned almost bare metal white..and I haven't even shot it that much. I am thinking about taking it to Kings in Glendale CA and see if I can get a good CCH done on it...it is a sweet gun.

I have several Cattlemen.  One, in particular, from Taylor's, has made most every shoot I've been in since, I think, 2001.  We shoot year round here, most time she's taken to two a month.  Has been for a long time.

Used Ed's Red as a solvent while I was usin' smokeless.  Ballistol for the last three years shootin' Holy Black.  I don't believe either has affected the CCH.

Holster wear has though.  The top strap has hardly any color left on it.  I should add I don't carry my pistols between stages.  I have holsters mounted on the guncart they live in until I'm called to the loadin' table.
