Looking Spencer Part (Spring for Cartridge Guide)

Hello:

Looks correct to me, at least its basic profile.

Be very careful removing the stock.  Some are stuck in place.  Try not to rotate it on the mag tube or the tube can rotate.  Then the shallow cut in the tube to allow the rear lock acrew to fit over it won't realign.  

Many Spencer ctg guide springs have leafs that may be a bit short.  Our guess is that some were out-of-spec, but found their way into surplus bins.  This shortness may interfere with the guide's action during cycling.  Some butt stocks have a small metal wood screw in the bottom of the hole in the top of the stock wrist to create a hard resting surface and minor spring positioning adjustment. This was put there FOR A GOOD REASON.  If your guide's snappyness seems weak, try 1/16" less hole depth, via that screw.  I have found that pesky feeding smoothness issues with correct OAL cartridges were immediately eliminated with a good, correctly positioned guide spring.

Ask Lodgewood to compare your spring to others so at least yours is visually similar.

One BIG safety caution:
NEVER TEST CYCLE LOADED CENTERFIRE SPENCER ROUNDS UNLESS YOUR MUZZLE IS POUNTED SAFELY!  IT IS EASY TO CREATE A LEVER STUTTER IN THE EXTRACTION AND THEN FEEDING MOTION AND JAM THE PRIMER AGAINST THE FRONT FINGERS OF THE GUIDE!

I could not get the stock off it was extremely snug and didn't budge any suggestions on how to get it off with out damaging anything?  Also mine does not have the wood screw in the neck.

The wood screw is in the hole that is only visible when the stock is removed.
Try searching here for stock removal information.

Ok, got the stock off tonight, neat way of keeping it on, and I noticed two things, firstly there is no screw by the spring in either the steel body or the wood stock AND the spring is missing... I had assumed it was just broken so I dont really have anything to compare it too.  Thoughts?

Got the spring from S&S they shipped it up to me here in Canada.  Popped it in and works like new, this Carbine is smooth!

Wow, NO spring!  
Perhaps it broke and someone pulled the two pieces out via the block cavity.

As someone posted, but cannot recall specifics:
"You can find almost anything on a Spencer".

Very helpful info regarding no screw in the stock.  

What metal is the outer magazine tube?  Steel or brass?
Was there any coating on it? Some had a tar like coating.
It would also be useful to know the approximate serial number if you don't mind, please.  Thanks.

The serial number is 42916.

That was my guess the broke it trying to take it out the wrong way, it is a stiff spring.

the outer magazine looked like it was steel, for sure not brass.  No tar coating but it was in very good condition so maybe it was lightly oiled?
