Howdy to the camp!

We despite the shoulder surgery three weeks ago, I was determined to shoot a match today.  I borrowed a 20 gauge with light loads, padded my shoulder under my vest, grabbed the Spencer Carbine, Henry military Rifle, and a brace of 1858 Uberti's (one with an R&D and one a factory gated conversion.

Out of six stages, dropped one pistol shot (of course it was one of the closest targets.  I used the Taylor's 56-50 carbine for five of the six stages, and the Henry for one.  Shot clean with both, and generally impressed folks with the speed (a relative term) that I cycled the Spencer. Actually I have to admit, I was generally very fast in Spencer terms.  It was a real crowd pleaser.  I even popped some softball size rocks on the berm 50 yards distance, standing off hand.

I really like the modified Lee 350 .512 DWM/HrHW bullet. Had it over about 45 grains (volume) 777 with a CCI magnum rifle primer.  Really thumped the targets and drew a crowd.  Pretty stout, though no flattening of the primers or other signs of excessive pressure.   I did have to pop a vicodin after the match as the 20 gauge still beat up my repaired shoulder even worse than the stout Spencer loads. I'm not suppose to shoot for another three weeks or so, but I had cabin fever and the devil made me do it. I do olove my Spencer

PS Hangin Judge Hemp had his 44-40 Spencer carbine and used it.  He sandbag grouped it with Black Hills cowboy at 50 yards before the match and had a 1" group!  He was impressed.
