Howdy, all!  Haven't been here in awhile; I am still in the sandbox.  Does anyone know of a good source for 1880's era Marine Corps uniforms? I tried the Quarter Master shop and they stated that they could not do one for me (this was awhile ago, not recently) even though they have U.S. Scout on their webpage in one.  The type I am thinking of was from a Marine Corps Gazette cover; an 1880's Marine Captain with a campaign (slouch) hat on, a blouse, trousers with the bloodstripe, and leggings.  Would appreciate any help on this.  Semper Fi!  Manny Pistolero...

Manny,

Good to hear from you!  Can we expect you to return to CONUS and remain here anytime soon?

The uniform shown on the cover of the Gazette (if its the same one as drawn by Marine Corps Combat Artist Donna Neary) follows the 1892 regulations and was worn during the Spanish-American War, though the fatigue coat was introduced in 1875.

If you check out our website, www.grandarmyofthefrontier.org , you can see the regs.

I don't know who can make the coat, though QM Shop might if you send them the regulations and as many photographs and drawings as can be found that show the details (the 1875 regs show a drawing of the coat).  This is how I got my full dress frock coat made.

Bvt Col Malachi Thorne has located a source for the black braid.

If you find someone who can make the coat, let us know as I believe there are several of us who would be interested in having the coat made up.

Good Afternoon, General US Scout and Captain Manny Pistolero;

I do indeed have a source for all of the braid, and in fact am sitting on 100 meters of the braid used for the chest froggings.  Family matters have kept me from working on my own uniform up until now; I hope to have that project restarted shortly.  I will be happy to share the information and sources I have.

I have the honor to remain,

Your Obedient Servant,

Bvt Col. M. Thorne
