Forty Rod

The only reason I would prefer the Russian over the American (they are identical except for the caliber) is that heeled bullet, under powered, inaccurate "American" cartridge is just WAY inferior to the "Russian" cartridge.

It's a bitch to reload, even if you can find cases and bullets, has to be externally lubed, and is easier to damage than its Russian cousin.

Both are American designed and manufactured, the ammo is an American design and any you'd find in this country would be American made.

I don' care if they call it a Pig Gut Special if it's a good copy.

People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Forty Rod, I want a 1st. Model Russian for the exact same reasons.  I DO have .44 American brass and dies, but .44 Russian would be my choice....

I would like to see some of the old Iver Johnson lemon squeezers reproduced. :)

I too would like to see conversion '49s and '62s.   The 1877 DA Colt with updated innards would be great for NCOWS, but since it wouldn't be allowed in most other CAS venues, it would have a small niche' market.
How about a repro 44 Evans in .44 Special or 44 S&W, you could shoot  3 stages without reloading!

New idea!  Volcanic in 38 S&W or 38 short Colt.     jt

Volcanics are neat because they are the 1st Smith & Wesson and the 1st Winchester.

I will agree with the 44 Cal. Kid, an Evans sure would be nice to play with!  Not your average CAS rifle fer sure! ;D ;D

That 28 shot rifle...Evans????  But I would REALLY like to see the 1895 Lee Navy Straight Pull in 6mm....

Yes, a Volcanic rifle, should be easily do-able.  I bet Norinco or Uberti could whip one out in no time.  Couldn't be any slower or worse than the Spencer repros.   Not that those aren't neat guns, I've just never seen one work reliably in actual shoot conditions.

O.T. Buchannan

44caliberkid, my original Spencer can be rather finicky....but it will still get through a match, it's just slow..... ;D

However, French Jack and Black River Smith both have repros (in .56-50), and they do quite well.  I've never seen French Jack have any trouble (although I'm sure he may have, at some point), and Black River Smith had a 'little' trouble with his at the last National Shoot, but still got through it.

The Spencer is not the rifle for the guy who is 'out to win'.... ;D

Now, an Evans?  THAT has possibilities!

As to the Volcanic, I did see a couple of years ago where someone had a repro of it...a custom job, I believe.  I thought it was pretty neat!

To my knowlege, Griz has never had any problems with his Spencer.

However there is a reason that French Jack shot his '66 at the Nationals.  :-[ ;) [Although it was probably gunsmith error.]

I weren't knockin' the Spencers, as you said, they are just slow.  And very pretty.  But since I shoot C&B revolvers, I have enough things slowin' me down, my '66 (rifle) has always worked flawlessly.   I tried usin' one of those new fangled cartridge pistols in a shoot this summer and never had so much trouble.

44 cal. Kid yes some outfit did or still (don't know) makes/made a Volcanic pistol BUT it was avalible only in .22 rimfire, I remember seeing this is some gun mag. or something. Sorry I don't remember who made them but I think they were a little pricy. WBR

O.T. Buchannan

44caliberkid, if you REALLY want to be both unique, and Very Slow, along with a Spencer, you can shoot 1 or 2 Starr Self-Cocking Army Revolvers....:)

I really like the guns, but even for a percussion revolver, loading them 'ain't quick'....:)

Since shooting at the speed of summer lightning ain't my way of shooting CAS, I particularly like shooting my Spencer alongside my percussion pistols.  Maybe I ain't fast, but I get a lot of style points.

Spencers are not as slow as you all think.  If there is a reload involved, Griz is fast enough to make up any time he loses in cocking each shot.  He is fun to watch.

Id like to see repros of the Double Action 1877 Colts as previously mentioned. Both Thunderer and Lightning models.

I'd also vote for a repro of the S&W American because it was the prefered cartridge revolver of my favorite gunman, John Wesley Hardin, for many years.

Forty Rod

slp, there was a man from Orange County some years back who had three Volcanic prototypes in .38 S&W at a gun show in Pomona.  Very, very nice, but not worth the $3,000 in 1980 something dollars he was asking.  I never saw him again ans suspect he never got into production.
