With my '58 rem, im having a most frustrating problem...its recoiling teh caps off the unfired chamber nipples.

The design lets the caps ease off...Colts cylinders seem  closer to the recoil shield and pervent this.

11s just totally wont work, but still get the prob with 10s to some degree....Whats ths solution ?

I fixed that problem on one of mine , buy calling ThunderRidge and telling them what size caps I shoot ( remington # 10`s ) and they sent me a bronze set that works good , no more problems with caps falling off.
On my Calelas Pietta Remmie the Remington # 10 have always held on tight , never a problem . It was my Uberti that came with a different nipple size that the Remington # 10`s didn`t want to stay on .
The remington #10 caps are hard to find around me , so I buy a case at a time when I do find them .
I never cared for all that pinching the caps first , I like a cap that fits tight and stays put .

Pinching the caps out of round will help them stay on so you can use up what you have but get a different smaller size. What caps are you using? A #10 CCI is alot smaller than a #10 Remington cap and a #10 (1055) RWS is smaller still. If you are using Rem#11s then go to the Rem#10s. If you are using CCI#11s then go to the Rem or CCI#10s. The RWS#11 (1075) is very nearly the same size as the Rem#10 but a tad smaller. The Thunder Ridge Stainless replacement nipples and their Treso (berrylium copper?) nipples both like Remington#10 caps. The SS nips are slightly shorter than most stock nipples and occasionally need shimming for proper ignition (simple task, email me for info if needed). The Treso nips are longer than most nipples and the hammer face can get battered on them if you persist in dropping the hammer onto an uncapped nipple.

In reference to my post,,#11's wont suffice at ALL. They all fall off.
#10s, shake loose , and its unperdictible to say how many or which ones fall off, but its enough to make 100percent cylinder fire 'iffy.'
I think im going to install Tresco nipples...see if that helps, and if so, probably 'tresco' all my cap guns.

Get the TRESO that are designed for #11. They hold the cap much better, reduce tendancy to blowback the cap off the nipple, and #11s seem to be the ones that most of the suppliers around here can keep in stock. Might want to file the face of the hammer so that the flat part that strikes the nipple is more parrallel to the end of the cylinder. My Uberti hammer nose had a forward angle towards the top that was not letting the hammer strike the nipple square.
Also, might want to consider experimenting with reducing your charge a bit. We usually don't need to fill those chambers with as much BP as we have a tendancy to do just to hit these targets at typical CAS distances.

The Treso and SS nipples from Thunder Ridge are both much smaller in flash hole diameter. They can get clogged a little easier when cleaning but markedly reduce blowback of the hammer under fire.

different brands of caps are totally different from other brands. I have seen some #10's that are bigger than other brands #11's, and visa, versa.

My magic combo is stock Uberti nipples with RWS 1075 caps.

CCI #11's are a close second.

Flint

Size of caps, smaller to larger:  CCI#10, Rem#10, CCI#11, Rem#11.  I don't have a size on the RWS, but someone said they are smaller per size# than the CCI.

I have enough Treso nipples to fit about 10 revolvers, and the price really adds up fast.  I'm tempted to timeshare the ones I have to save from spending more money to convert everything, especially as I don't shoot them all anyway.

I currently fit 5 Treso nipples and one stock Uberti to each cylinder for a CAS match, the black nipple telling me which chamber to leave empty.  This also gives me one more cylinder full for every package of 5 Treso, which come 6 to a package.  Saves $17.

Here's my take on the order of cap sizes from Smallest to largest:

RWS 1055 (#10)
CCI #10
Rem #10
RWS 1075 (#11)
CCI #11
Rem #11

On my 15 or so C&Bs I can get half of them to take the CCI#11 and another half to take the RWS 1075 but ALL of them take the Rem#10. About half the guns have the original nipples replaced because they would not take the Rem#10s. I have replace those with the Uncle Mike's/Butler Creek SS nipples, the Thunder Ridge SS replacement nipples. I have one set of Tresos but have removed them for the shorter TR SS nipples in a gun to match it up with its twin.
