Sgt. Eli

Ok I'm getting more interested in NCOWS all the time, and Rowdy has been on me about joining. The Working Cowboy category shootin' black powder would be my choice so someone run me thru a typical scenario. How it works, how many rounds, reloads etc.

A lot depends on the Match Director and how the scenario is written, but TYPICALLY, you shoot the same course of fire, minus the second pistol and shotgun.  If I recall correctly, there was once the requirement that you had to reload pistol, but that has been dropped.  I think you should join.  Once you get into it, you will like it.  It's joining up that's the hurdle....Oh and by the way, welcome.

Howdy Sgt. Eli,

I joined when I found out about Working Cowboy.  The course of fire varies from posse to posse.  Some like to reload the revolver on the clock a lot.  Some seldom and others both revolver & rifle on the clock.  I have a whole lot of fun in this class.  I would recommend that you visit Rowdy's posse and give it a try.  Generally WC are squadded on a posse with 4 gun shooters, and like Maj. Matt said, shoot the one revolver and the rifle, omitting the other revolver and shotgun and pocket pistol if called for.

The KVC [Eastern Kansas & Western Missouri] holds a Two Gun Regional [May 4 - 6 @ Garnett, KS] which is WC with some local additions such as a written test and talent show requirement as stages of the match. :o ;D ;)  Great fun for all.  There is a couple of motels available and plenty of room to primitive camp, or modern camp in the parking area.

I would encourage you to join NCOWS and be part of the fun!!

Sarge:

These good folks have pretty much summed it up. It's a great category for young or old, fast or slow, veteran or beginner.  In fact, the WC class has been the largest class at the last two Nationals, as I recall. I think it will likely continue that way. It's become a very attractive alternative for lots of folks.

I would also echo the above sentiments and encourage you to join the outfit. It's a great organization with a great philiosophy ... and some of the finest folks and worst liars in the territory.  ;) From polecats to Pinkertons, we've got a bit of everything.

Welcome.

Dutch, G.W.--- do you reckon we need to have some "Pink" targets at the Nationals?  We could paint Tiny "Pink", and put a bullseye in an appropriate location.  Any suggestions?  Ideas?  When Dave mentioned "Pinks" and polecats in the same breath, it sort of reminded me------  :P  ;)

FJ---Seems I recall having a gallon or so of some real nice PINK paint. Tiny would never be the same imposing character that he is now, but it sure would look sweet! ;D

That much "Pink" might be harmful to yer health!  :o  The thought of Tiny painted pink - that's scary!  ::)

For those who don't know, Tiny is a BAD cowpoke who's painted on a HUGE piece of wood in the middle of one of the great stages at Hooten Olde Towne (MY spelling), in Ken-tucky.

See:  http://www.hootenoldtown.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=2&pos=95

You have to overcome Tiny in some manner, then shoot the rest.  It's pretty cool!

SHB-- Tiny is all steel.  No wood there.  Believe it or not, OCB proved that he could be missed.  Imagine him PINK.

SHB,

Ha!  Pink would make Tiny all the more pleasure to dispatch! Remember, the pinker they are, the harder they fall! ;D ;D
I might also add that I think a "special award" should be given to anyone that happens to miss Tiny at this year's National Shoot, Pink or not! :o

I have an idea for the trophy given to whomever misses Tiny - a miniature metal rifle with the barrel heated and bent about 30 degrees to one side. "The Cross-Eyed Sights Award".  ;D

Sgt. Eli .
Good to see you found the Working Cowboy category by now all the other members have given you some ideal of how it works . So on the second Saturday of March come to Clay ,Ky. and shoot with us and see how much fun you can have with your pistol and rifle . Just throw your saddle bags over your shoulder with your ammo in them and enjoy just having FUN . And yes we would love to have you in our Posse .
