Well, fellas.  It's my sad duty to report – they failed.  Or, maybe, semi-failed 'cuz they ain't gone off yet........

Ya see, they went ta Wakefield a couple weeks ago 'n got themownselves stuck inta Will's shotgun.  CLICK – CLICK.  No boom.  Tried 'em in Slowpoke's – same.  Neither primer fired.

Loaded the things back mid September.  Been sittin' 'round two months on their bases right here on the desk waitin' for the ride.  Best we can figure iz there was 'nuff moisture in 'em ta seep past stuff 'n kill the primers.  Least ways I hope that's what happened 'cuz I got two boxes of shells all loaded with shot 'n such I intend ta use for real.  Primers came out the same package........

But, we're gonna load sum more 'Featherlites' a week from tomorrow so they'll be real fresh for Test #2.

Wow!  I think it's PRETTY difficult to neutralize a primer these days.  They have a coating applied at the factory - at least the American ones do.  Just this week I finally emptied my "just fired" BP jug.  Lo & Behold, out comes a live round in with the empties.  It spent 10 days soakin'.  225 RN over 35 gr. of Goex 3f.  I had to try it out on the wet stump in the back 40.  BANG!!!   It went in about 6"

Yeah, I crimp FIRMLY, so ...

I've also tried killin' primers with WD 40 and BreakFree.  Had to shoot 'em dead.

Good luck with the "featherlites!"  It'll be a real hoot (  ::) ) when they go off!

Whut bothers me, SHB.  Thems was out of a brand new container 'n the stuff I got loaded up for tomorrow got spark plugs out the same container in 'em.

Can't remember the last time I had a primer refuse ta go bang.  Two in a row?

you know Arcey, them feathers when fresh are about 40% moisture and they are a corrosive mositure, lay one on some metal and let it sit a few days, it'll be a bad rusty spot.  these ones I have here gathered up but not sent yet, have been laid out drying since I gathered them, maybe they'll be a little better, but it takes awhile for them to dry out. at least without heat.
when these get ready, I'll send them along.

ya know that first batch I sent ya,  I just picked em up and put em in a plastic bag, it started sweating inside the plastic, I got some more and sent them after drying a few days, but I think these should be a lot dryer,  they've been airing out for a few weeks.

gee, guys, have just finished reading this series of posts.  Loads of useful, pertinent info!  It's reassuring to know I'm not the only guy around who spends his spare time working on matters of crucial social and philosophical import.....
Not currently owning a shotgun, I'm out of the running in the glitter/colored chalk/feather line of enquiry.  I do have some lengths of PVC pipe, of various ID's laying around the house; and some experience, in years past, with beer can mortars.  We used anything for propellants; Right Guard aerosol deoderant, acetyline from carbide, acetyline and 02 straight from the oxy-acetyline outfit in the garage, aerosol ether starting fluid, whatever was handy.  It was a lot of fun, especially after drinking enough beer to have a goodly supply of projectiles.  Haven't fooled with one in years; thought I'd outgrown that phase of my life.
But along comes this topic, and by cracky!, inspiration!  A RUBBER CHICKEN!  I figure about 4 foot of barrel, cut up disposable diapers for wadding, and a well crisco'ed chicken ought to be the ticket.  And a homeade parachute to ease the chicken's re-entry......

Noz

Why a rubber one? Tyson's should be able to supply a multitude of real chickens at a truly modest price as far as projectiles of this weight go.

Evenin', boys.

Steel Hoss, mi amigo.  Ya e'er wanna kill shotshell primers follah my directions on the first two.  Seems that'll do it.

The two that went today were loaded yesterday.  All the 'for real' shells I had loaded with that same lot of primers went "BOOM"!

The break came this mornin'.  I grabbed the Uplander 'n the 'Featherlites' 'n went to the line.  A few folks knew whut was goin' on so they gathered around.  Stuck 'em in the shotgun 'n put it at hip level so I could see.

BOOM!!!!

Heh, heh, heh.....

We had a l'il breeze.  Got this cloud of smoke what drifted off 'n then this six ta eight foot ball of feathers appeared out the smoke 'n come floatin' easy ta the ground.  Folks started laffin'.  Pulled the second barrel – same thing.  Reckon the chokes didn't make any difference.  Range, roughly between the pistol 'n rifle targets.

Unnerstan', this ain't gonna give the same effect as rippin' open a pillow case full in a high wind.  Simply ain't 'nuff feathers ya can stuff in a 12 ga. shell for that.  What'll I'll gare-ron-tee is if yer willin' ta take the misses or pick up knockdowns for a laff, stick two in 'n let go with both barrels from the hip.  You'll get the attention of an unsuspectin' RO and/or spotters.

Plannin' on doin' that in a few weeks.  Finish the stage 'n ask for my bonus fer gettin' the pigeon.  When they ask 'what pigeon' – I'm gonna ask 'em if they saw the feathers!

Sorry I didn't get any pics.....

Thanks again, OT.
