Ordered a Taylor's Forged Frame New Army

I bought a 5.5" Remmie last year from Taylor's and it was bad; the fit and finish were atrocious. So I swore I'd never buy another Uberti. Fast forward to today: I bought another--a forged frame model this time--in the hope that it would far surpass the other.

I'll report on its quality when it arrives, which should be Friday.

I am waiting on my THRID,,get it,,THIRD '60 Army....sending them back if they aint right..last one had circles of steel cut round the riflings bout half way down...

Taylors are nice bout take'm back,,but hell fire?? whats a guy to doo to get a basic decent guy nowdays?

Ringo, I got me two of them there forged frame Uberti '58's from Taylors, and I am right happy with them. Not one complaint about fit, finish or function... then again, they are also the "antiqued" finish, so..... But they work just fine.

You got antiqued forged frame guns? Shucks! I didn't know Taylor's had them! You simply have to post a pic!

Sorry if these pics aren't the greatest, but all I had handy was my phone. These are my "Antiqued" Uberti '58 Remmies, with the R&D conversion cylinders. I stripped the cylinders to make them match the rest of the gun, as they came from Taylor's blued.

I bought a forged frame long barrel one at Winter Range. I am now saving my coins for another. Light Years ahead of anything I have from them before  and I was happy with those guns .

I agree.  I love my Taylor's forged frame 8" 1858.  It is light years ahead of any other BP revoolver.  I had it with aaa R&D cylinder paired with my Uberti gated 45 conversion until I got my Schofield.  I kept the 1858 for CW reenacting, but sold the R&D to a pard on the list.

Now I'm cautiously excited. I hope the steel is a little harder than the steel in their cast guns.

The gun arrived today. I've only played with it a bit, but I can tell that it's nicer than the junker I bought last year.

On the plus side:
1) Perfect triggerguard fit. On my other gun, it was wretched.
2) The finish is a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. On my other gun, it was a 6.
3) A slightly lighter hammer pull
4) Grip shape is more authentic -- different from the cast frame guns and more like an original Remmie. Has anyone else noticed this? My grip is different from Marshal Tac's two guns.
5) I was able to re-insert the cylinder, from the right, with the hammer at half cock. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but I did it without gouging the cylinder. I couldn't do this with my other gun.

On the negative side:
1) Some minor machine marks on the triggerguard. These can be easily polished out.
2) No cylinder gap to speak of; I can't see light between cylinder and barrel. I'll get a conversion cylinder and then re-assess the gap.

Is the little screw on the front of the grip functional? Can I use it to lighten the hammer spring?

Overall, I'm pleased with the gun. I'm sending it to a pro for a light antiquing job.

So, we're talking about the little screw on the grip's frontstrap. Right? The screw your fingers touch when you're gripping the gun?

Do I turn it counterclockwise to lighten the mainspring?

The frame is noticeably smaller than the Pietta's. It's closer in size to an original -- just a tad bigger.
