...an Annual style Wild Bunch Match. 10 Stages in over a weekend? Using a 1911, Luger P-08, a 96 Mauser, or a S&W or a Colt with Half moon clips, the 97 and their favorite Cowboy Rifle.

This is just a fishing expedition at this point, but I want to build a SASS Style WB Match. I want to see if the demand is there. I reckon you could have most of the SASS Smokeless Classes. You know, Traditional, Duelist etc.... I reckon Classic Cowboy and Gunfighter would not work for the WB Match. I even think you could have a Modern Catagory for folks who want to shoot .38 Supers and those pistols with advanced sights. No lasers of course.

I personally think it sounds like a hoot. But to do it, I need to know if there is a demand for it. So, I reckon I am soliciting opinions on the subject.

Heck, Major, everybody knows those new "automatic" pistols won't catch on, you should save the ammo for when they stop making it.  ;D

You know, I've always wanted an M1911 with "Property of U.S. Navy" on it.

You know, every now and again this whole Wild Bunch thing comes up....and I can't shake it....Looks like I will just have to put on a match and get it out of my system.....

Major:

I reckon you are talking about a WB match at CCC, Topeka???
Any thought to which day? Sounds like fun.

What do the WB shooters usually wear?

Actually,

I am thinking of a 3 day shoot with the Free State Rangers in Parker, KS the third weekend of May.

Don't forget the belt-fed Maxim, and a sack full of (non-period-correct) hand grenades!

Griz,

Should I take that as indication that you are interested?

Grizzle Bear

Absolutely!  And I would like to see stages for individual shooters, and of course a four-person team.  With a "target-rich" environment!

Major, now you've done it. I've just been struck with the notion of getting a French Foreign Legion uniform and a 8mm Lebel. I'll just pay for it with my dashing good looks!  ::)

Just as long as we are talking about the pistol.....We will need to use Cowboy Rifles.

I would like to see some Krags, '03's, and 98 Mausers, with the light lead bullet loads we have used before.

Griz,

That is not acceptable to the range owners that I am working with on this.

Grapeshot

How about the M1909 Colt New Service?  That was in the hands of the troops as well as the M1911, until the M1911 was made in significant quantities for general issue to those other than Cavalry Soldiers.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Major Matt Lewis

Yeah,

I got no issue with the 1909 Service Revolver.  I am thinking if participation allows of having a seperate catagory for Revolvers....

FYI, I'll be attending a WB match on the 29th, near Monmouth, IL.

if you don't have a M1911 to bring to Shady Creek, there are loaners / appropriate ammo, at cost & folks to help learn!

So, basically - any pistol in use up to and including WWI would be OK?

Sounds like fun!

I doubt I'd be able to join in, but it sure sounds like a hoot.  Since I no longer have my "issue sighted" 1911 (A1) I guess I'd have to break out the 1916 Erfurt P08 and load up some lead (higher power) bullets for it.  It still has the original heavy springs.

Speaking of Lugers, does anyone know where I might find a new lower power spring and a repro replacement (or original, I s'pose) firing pin?  I can easily get additional magazines, but that's all I've seen available.

Thanks - SHB

We'll watch for it.  Right now we have that weekend open.  Sounds like a great shootout!!!!

Got 2 old Remington Rand 1911A1's now.  And a load of 230 gr ball (actually cast) ammo to burn.
And with Rock Creek Critter's assistance:  There'll be L/H & R/H forward U.S. marked black leather holster to house 'em in.
