My wife works as a para-educator at our high school, as most old timers on these boards know, I came home to the small town that I grew up in after retiring from the Navy,  I live a block from the house where I grew up.  My wife checked out a book from the high school library today titled "Bat Materson" thinking I'd like to read it.  After a hectic night, I picked up the book to read it, and saw the check out card still in the book, and was surprised to find out that I'd checked out this same book myself before, twice in Junior High in 1970, guess there are still a few good friends left in the building.... ;D ;D ;D

Kinda of as strange coincidence.....

When I was in Grade School about 4th. I think , I recall there were a series of Landmark Military Books. "D-day" and "Guadalcanal"
The Third Reich , etc.
Try as I could, the Old lady Librarian, Mrs Pile ( I remember her name) would not allow me to check them out to "old for me" she would say....

I didn't know then my passion for History, began in longing to read those books.
My career in Historical films ,may have begun because I was denied the books I was told "I would not understand".

Ahhh !  the puritan 1950's public school educational system  ::)
Well I did read them , eventually  ... and I now have a large library of American History reference books.....

maybe the best way to get a kid to read something is tell him he can't !  ;)

Forty Rod

If I found a book with my name in it, I'd find anoher copy and offer it to the school, along with as many other books as I could afford, in exchange for it.  Then it would have an honored place on my shelves.

I remember Triggernometry and AWOL, a story about an Army K-9 Corps dog in Korea.  I own a pristine copy of the first.  Someday I'll find the second.
