While searching for a boiler for dying a frock with walnut hull dye, I spotted a nice old cast iron dutch oven at the local Goodwill. Said Made in USA on the bottom, but I didn't see a brand name such as Lodge or Griswold. This one was about 10 or 12-quart, no legs or lip on the rim, but it had the little drip points on the underside of the lid. They wanted $22 for it. Is this worth adding to my meager collection? What do the drip points do?

Those collect moisture and let it drip back, hence the name 'self-basting lid."    I think the similar piece from Lodge is about $90 retail, so if it were me I'd grab it, they are ok to hang on a tripod or use on the stove at home.  I have one an we love it, never goes out of the kitchen.
